Dr. James Reilly will run for Fine Gael in Dublin North. Thats what a Fine Gaeler told me last week. He's a great candidate, very well known.

He is, I think he was the President. He is/was my cousin in Lusk's GP.

I'd heard this rumour too, but for the life of me I can't remember where I heard it.

Hmmm, looks like Hiker's a bit annoyed to hear this rumour.....[/quote:2ryp7hlj]

Well, I was hoping that no one from Fine Geal would turn up for the election at all. 8)

Oh, we'll be there alright. For ye guys it'll be a bit like hanging around waiting to play a football match, and wondering if the other team will turn up at all. Then, with five minutes to kickoff, just as you're entertaining thoughts of a nice walkover and a trip to the pub, a Ford Transit pulls up, and out clatters fifteen big huge f*ckers, all kitted out and ready to go.....

.... to continue the story ... later that day you'll wish you had stayed at home and conceded a walk-over, rather than having to take yet another thrashing.

Will make no difference: Glennon (FF) & Sargeant (Greens) safe, with Kennedy (FF), Ryan (LAB) and Daly (SP) fighting it out for the final 2 seats. It will be very interesting however to see who polls the highest between the PD's & FG.

Given that FG, even with pretty ropey candidate selection at the local elections, polled 16% throughout the constituency, you'd have to put them well in the hunt for the final seat. I suspect that on first-preferences there won't be a lot between Kennedy, Ryan, Daly and Reilly (if indeed he is the FG candidate), so it'll all come down to transfers, and the order of elimination.

They need to run at least two candidates in Dublin North, one main candidate and one sweeper - one north, one south.

The constituency is so large with so many varying issues in different localities that they need candidates that can cover a wide spectrum. IMO O'Reilly (if the rumours are correct) couldn't deliver on that.

Think about it, the issues in Balbriggan are very different to Swords which is turn has different issues to say, Malahide. It makes no sense to run a candidate that is from a small town who has no media presence when FG have sitting councillors with a strong media presence and a knowledege of the issues.
