Saturday September 16th 2016 14:00–16:00

Right2Water will be hosting another national demonstration in Dublin to tell our government to respect our democracy and abolish water charges.

Almost 100 TD's were elected in the recent general election stating that they would end water charges and abolish Irish Water. Our government have attempted to undermine our democracy by kicking the can down the road and instigating an "independent" Water Commission. The previous Chair of this Commission, Joe O'Toole has already stated that central taxation would not be enough to fund our water services, showing his bias before the Commission even began. As Mr O'Toole said himself, this "is a political exercise". His comments led to his removal from the commission but there is no doubt that the Commission has been established with the intention to keep water charges in place.

The event will object to the EU Commission intervening in Irish democracy which they have done in recent weeks. We will also be protesting against TTIP, CETA and making a call for a referendum to enshrine ownership of our water in the hands of the public.

Irish Water has been set up for privatisation. We must stand against that on Saturday, 17th September 2016. Be there!

Why are they protesting about TTIP at the same time? Wont that fudge the numbers for the inevitable P.ie argument about how many showed up?
TTIP and the Apple ruling as well. Some might argue that skews the numbers but the reality is the people angry about water charges are also angry about the government trying to give Apple massive tax breaks and TTIP.

The common theme here is people are taking to the street against this government as pretty much everything is does is wrong.

Whatever legal quibbles they have about this, this ensures that the site has the least impact it could have. Why have they decided to stymie the power of the internet like this over political events?

'Stop blocking Dublin's streets'
- Right2FreeMovement.

It's time to end these pointless, venal street protests. There are too many hindrances now to people going about their legitimate business. Dublin is sclerotic enough as it is.

Oh yeah, and Abolish Right2Freebies.

Yet another gathering to those who don't want to pay for anything. The biggest mistake the previous government made was expecting the perpetual Dole scroungers to pay for water. If they'd exempted them and the overprotected pensioner with private pensions on top of the State pension then there'd have been little fuss over it. I don't want to pay for water but I'm sick to death of the long term unemployed bitching about having to pay for something for a change. If people don't want to pay, fine just don't fricking keep blocking city centres with you're circle jerking.

Any company manufacturing water or waste treatment equipment must be rubbing their hands together with glee at the prospect of 30 + regional bodies coming at them individually to ask for bids. But sure it's government money so who cares.

Denis O'Brien has his media saying there will only be 3,000 turning up....it's almost as funny when the same media said 50% had paid their water tax.
So Denis O'Brien's Siteserve (whatever they are called now) will be sending a very small invoice for the barricades.:)

Only a handful of scroungers and loony left types. This is a non-issue. The government needs to bring in metering.....now.

Why don't you and the other blues get your own meters and start paying a double tax, does the gov have to do everything for you?
