No idea who the guy holding the cup at the bottom is. Probably one of the Grogan's. Legends on Planet Howyiz.

The guy in the middle was pretty awesome alright. And where's the pic of Chippy Brady?

While a great haul, its less of an achievement than even qualifying for an Olympics. There are around 500 players in each sport in Cork. Not hard enough to make the team to really be elite.

The greatest sportswoman maybe , but looking at the standard yesterday it is at about U14 boys level. The level would have to be a lot higher than that to claim overall greatness.

Sonia O'Sullivan, Katie Taylor, Analyse Murphy, Stephanie Roche and others would disagree.

This is not to belittle her medal haul, but it's two minority sports with no international comparison.

You can't expect PON to chose one of the dozens of world class players produced by Dublin in its most popular sport. That would never do.

To an extent yes, but winning things like Olympic medals or consistently competing at the top international level is generally a marker.

Look, time to call a spade a spade, and stop the agenda monkey nonsense.

Soccer is the ultimate world sport, particularly in recent times - one where more people on this planet try climbing the greasy pole from u10's in the park to the Champions League. This is the most fine grained excellence machine the world has to offer - even beyond sport. And in that there is one who stands over all the others, because nobody else was the captain, leader, main man on a club team that reached the very top of the game in Europe, and utterly dominated the one of three big leagues. It's Roy Keane whether you like him or not.

I'd put Giles before Keane any day of the week, he never walked away from the Irish team.

You do realize most Olympic athletes are dope heads. The Olympics are now shamboic and will wither on the vine. Of the 10 fastest men in the world, 9 have failed a drugs test, except you know who. Though most of his team mates have failed tests.

Giles didn't even consider himself Irish, according to his autobiography. Typical working class Dub.
