At the risk of sounding non pc, what is going on in Meath that they are planning on closing the roads in Ratoath for non-winning Britains Got Talent contestant Leah Barniville's homecoming? I get that she is a talented kid, but guess what? She didn't win. She didn't even make the final. In a foreign competition where let's face it (given that the result was dependent on the public phoning in) she didn't really have a chance. It was great exposure for her but there are lots of kids who compete in competitions overseas, who just because they are not featured on British tv go unremarked on. Are we going to close the roads for the O'Donovan brothers when they come home every time they don't win? Let's get some perspective.

I'd follow my own advice if I was you

If the kid has any sense or useful management she'll have a Marian vision on the way back. That way she can diversify her celebrity portfolio.

Shocking disregard for your human rights.
Not the point I was making, but then again, if you think this is about human rights you're even more of a snowflake than I can imagine. I have nothing against Leah, or her family. She is a taleneted kid who entered a competition in country filled with other talented people. Fair play to her. But BGT is NOT the Olympics, it's NOT the Eurovision(even in its currently depleted form), its NOT worth closing roads for on an bank holiday weekend, costing the state overtime etc etc etc. I can only imagine the mayhem if she'd won this West Britfest whose biggest prize is to perform in front of the British Royal family.

no idea what BGT is ,

is it a new gender fluid ??
LOL, if that wasn't even more pc than the op I'd agree. Britain's Got Talent is a very entertaining variety talent competition. Nothing more, nothing less. Not that you'd know that given the deflection tactics being used locally as the FG leadership competition rolled on. If only Simon could sing...or Leo for that matter.

the last talent to come out of there was Tommy Tiernan, give it to them, not a huge cost to close a few roads every 20 years or so

Regardless of the level of "talent" involved, the cost in overtime for gardai etc in closing roads for such a superflous occasion is probaly equivalent to what? An SNA for a term, maybe two? The renovation of that appaling hoarding in the middle of Ratoath for the last 10 years? The local councillors really need to get their priorities in order. Populism may have gotten Trump and May, maybe even Varadker elected but common sense eventually rues those acts. Although I genuinely hope that Varadker proves to be the exception that proves the rule.

They fecking close off all my local roads - unofficially - when the farmers drive their sheep through.

Really. And on quad bikes like some presidential escort thingie.

Not to mention, that bull that escaped. You would think he was the Pope.

I find the OP mystifying.

What has roads being closed for someone got to do with political correctness?

COST. Plain and simple. Will they close the roads for me when I don't qualify for the finals of Pointless? or the Cube? or Countdown?

Maybe they'll close the roads in an attempt to keep you out :)

Its not unusual to have these kind of homecomings for locals who take part in a major competition it's no biggie.

Has he got a Bullmobile, squirting his blessing on you as he passes?

Ha! You obviously think I'm more important than I am. Just as well I don't. My point still stands. We should not blindly accept the wasting of taxpayers money on semi-perceived populist back-patting when there are more important issues to focus on. The feting of a losing contestant in a foreign compeition is NOT a reason to close the roads and spend money on a "homecoming". If the local GAA team lost in the All Ireland semi-final they wouldn't be treated in such a manner.
