Public support for Abortion is one thing, but Roberts & Co have it in their sights ....

By taking up the case of an extreme Louisiana law, the Supreme Court Conservative majority are signalling the ultimate or penultimate step in ending the abortion regime of Roe vs Wade.

There is very little doubt that the conservative majority will use this case to overrule 2016’s Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, allowing states to regulate abortion clinics out of existence. In the process, the Republican-appointed justices will set the stage for the formal reversal of Roe v. Wade. The court’s decision to hear June Medical Services came with the alarming announcement that it will also consider whether to strip doctors of their ability to contest abortion laws in court. These aggressive moves augur an impending demise of the constitutional right to abortion access.

Should be just in time for the 2020 Election.

Incidentally, it should be remembered that the opening up of American elections to the floodgates of foreign money and influence came with the Supreme Court disastrous Citizen's United decision, which equated a Corporation's monetary contributions with free speech. But how do you know from where a Corporation is getting its money?

Not to mention another disastrous decision - Bush vs Gore, that gave the world the war in Iraq.

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has refused Mississippi's request to reinstate their ban on abortions after 15 weeks. This court is overwhelmingly GOP-appointed so doesnt bode well for a SC appeal.

Gallup Poll ...

21% of Americans think abortion should be illegal in all circumstances.
25% of Americans think abortion should be legal under some circumstances.
53% of Americans think abortion should be legal in all circumstances.
I wonder how solid that 21% figure really is if the person herself or a young family member were affected? Some middle class voters may be willing to tolerate a statewide loss of abortion services as long as they can access them elsewhere but the prospect of a Romania-style national ban would be another matter entirely. In such circumstances, the liberty and safety of the (female) majority of the population would be seriously compromised.

So much is down to the health of RBG, ruth bader ginsberg, a liberal clinton appointee.

If she dies before trump goes, the odds say he will replace her with a member of the "Federalists"

Two things we can agree on in that post, although I suspect we differ over the necessity for Roe vs Wade. One of the worst concepts in American and global commercial history is the notion that a financial vehicle can carry the same rights as a person, via an extraordinary re-imagining of the word 'personhood'..

True, but all politics is organised in groups, and be they called trusts, charities, companies or whatever, each will represent thousands of suppliers, donors, workers, and clients to provide that sack of gold.

Last time, clinton spent 2 billion, trump 1 billion - so her supporters felt her election (and access to her) for 4 years was going to be well worth $10,000,000 a week.

Given it was 21% in 1975 (nearly 50 years ago), and is 21% now, and the figure agrees with the ABC poll above, it is surely pretty solid.

Case in front of the Supreme Court against Carpetbagger abortionists in Louisiana and States' rights. Is the United States still a federal system or is it better governed centrally?

Irony... #Women get the most abuse online from #left-wing activists who can't stand it when we refuse to sit in the #SJW box provided.

Threats. Misogynistic insults. Demeaning sexual references. Defamation. Doxxing. Look no further than your friends.

Just posted the same thing on the 'Post 8th discussion', Emily. I'm happy to scrap my post on the other thread and use this thread instead as I think it more accurately is going to cause waves in the US debate rather than any lingering re-hash in Ireland.

I think they're waiting for RBG to move on, replace her with a conservative judge and take the abortionists in trump's 2nd term.

You're opinion of Trump is not relevant. Once RBG is replaced the SCOTUS will be more likely to overturn tie Vs Wade. Pro life will c
Challenge after she's replaced
