I think the word " allegedly " might be appropriate for the headline on this thread.

Let me get your argument straight here - because the IRA killed members of the Gardai it is ok for the Royal Navy to assault Gardai. Thanks for that wonderful contribution enby.

Incidentally, afaik there is no such rank in the Royal Navy as Warrant Officer. That is a Royal Marine/Army/Royal Air Force rank. The equivalent in the Royal Navy would be a Chief Petty Officer.

It is possible that he is part of a detachment of Royal Marines on the ship.

The HMS Mersey's wiki page says that the ship carries a Royal Marine detachment for boarding ops.

No, you are mistaken. Warrant Officer in the Royal Navy is a superior rank to Chief Petty Officer.

Oh come on.

It's not like he and his mates decided it would be a good idea to opened fire on two detectives on escort duty.

Ah now B.A., you have not got my argument straight at all. I think that you know that. Nevertheless let me explain my "wonderful contribution" for you: It is absurd that a citizen of a State that has suffered the loss of a number of Gardai to subversive violence should find it necessary to start a thread about an allegation of assault of a Garda against a sailor of a foreign navy. The only reasonable explanation that I can think of is that person posted the thread in an effort to attack that foreign navy. I'd be surprised if that person has posted similar threads highlighting the murder of members of an Garda Siochana by the IRA or its imitators.

Finally I'll think that you'll find that if this fella is convicted , the Court will decide that he and not his employer assaulted the Garda.

They probably did. Still no excuse for engaging in whataboutery.

No and the RN didn't murder or assault Irish civilians like the Garda Heavy Gang in the 1970's. Do you think the RN may have murdered Ritchie Barron in Donegal also and tried to get it blamed on the McBrearty's ?

Good one BS81. Do you have any more jokes for us?
Invading forces are no joke mate - look at all the death they've caused.

You act the big grown up mature adult though because it's immature to tell the truth and lay the blame where it really belongs.
