Ad in today's Indo from Railway Procurement Agency giving notice of application for Railway Order for Metro West line from Tallaght to Dardistown, near Dublin Airport, where it will interchange with Metro North.

The order will have a 15-year lifespan allowing construction to begin anytime from date of order, which is expected this time next year. That would give RPA until Oct 2026 to begin construction but their target date is 2015 with operations beginning in 2019.

This just shows that at least someone is planning ahead. These projects have not been cancelled. RPA are proceeding to get planning persmission from An Bord Pleanala for all Metro and Luas projects - but the decisions on funding and construction will be left to future governments.

On a related note, the Railway Order decision for Metro North is due from An Bord Pleanala within the next week - that's when the real debate about the project will begin.

RPA have also put up some videos on YouTube showing computer mock-ups of the Metro West and Metro North routes.

The West video appears to show that Metro West can run on to the Airport on Metro North from the Dardistown stop - or in to town.

Is this the plan? If so, it would certainly tie-in with what was suggested in the DTO's Platform for Change from 2000.
