RTE has a puff piece, probably based on a press release about Fanmoji
RTÉ Mobile - Public asked for input on Irish themed emoji app
People are being asked to vote on the contents of a new Irish themed emoji keyboard.

British company Fanmoji is developing an emoji smartphone app with 100 stickers dedicated to Ireland.
Tim Webber shows as a director

Based on his LinkedIn profile, it is likely that tge venture is for profit

Was RTE right to publish the story?

Does RTE monitor staff for conflicts of interest ?

Excellent post.

Of course not is the answer.

By the way this Webber fella is not the only director.

So also are 40 Partners which is not a UK entity:

https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/help/corporate-officer-identification-type

There is a website for 40 Partners which seems to be a "media" firm.

http://www.40partners.com/what-we-do - they refer to working with coders.

The boss is this fella

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoffrey_Goodwin

One of the principals is a Smithwick

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emma_Smithwick

http://www.40partners.com/content/

Tim Webber is an employee or contractor

http://www.40partners.com/tim-webber

Also

83 Great Titchfield Street the address at Companies' House for 40 Partners on google shows an entity called Kiely Rowan plc.

A director of which is Orla Mary Kiely - the purse designer

https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/03954409/officers

In turn they have granted a charge (think mortgage) to HSBC

Good digging by you also...have RTE vetted the journalist and editor(s) concerned for conflict of interest?

Jaysus, this is fierce investigative journalism!

Private Eye has written a number of times on 'articles' on Kenco coffees amazing work helping ghetto residents in Mexico.
These 'articles' haven't made clear their commercial nature.

GMA.

I think there's a potential conflict of interest.
Not by 40 & the geek who designed these things.
Rather whatever clown at Pravda effectively gave this UK commercial operation the state's imprimatur & is promoting these cartoon things.

Examples of potential conflict of interest would be:
1) If the commissioning editor, journalist or publishing editor received direct benefit such as cash or gifts from the Fanmoji or their agents, such as PR agents
2) If the same RTE parties held any beneficial interests in Fanmoji or their agents

If connected parties (e.g. family, close friends) of the RTE parties were covered by either 1 or 2 ...that would be an issue

Frankly the publication of this story is so strange...that it is difficult to see pure motivation behind it

Fair enough. Such a direct conflict we don't know about. As we don't know who could be conflicted.

However, it is entirely possible that 40 P have a good PR person, or are good at PR themselves & got RTE to give them this free advertising & promotion.
