Watched this last night. Very disturbing. Our record on animal rights is lamentable and seems to be dictated by a well organised mostly rural lobby. Small but clearly has the ear of FG and FF ministers. Watching dogs being boiled alive and not being killed properly was bile inducing and to see the minister in charge stand up in Dail Eireann and refuse to put safe guards in place would make your blood boil. As for the so called sport of coursing it should banned ASAP.

22 thousand horses killed in ireland each year and also 3700 known abortions in ireland each year but that doesent mean that all horse people kill their horses and every woman or girl is going to have an abortion it is the same in the greyhound world there is a very small element that practice this cruelty and as for boiling dogs that was in some part of china about 10 years ago i would be very sure that no irish person would boil a dog alive.

Looks like the lives of Greyhounds are of more importance to RTE than the lives of Unborn Children so

2019 - 6,000 dead dogs

2019 - 6,000 [?] + aborted children

But Dogs Rights

- trump Human Rights.!🐶

I am sure they wouldn't but we allow dogs to be exported to places like Pakistan and China where there is zero welfare rules. Also in the programme it showed Greyhounds being killed, illegally, at a knackery and the Greyhound was only half done and it was lying writhing waiting to die. That was in Ireland. Of the 30 knackers RTE phoned 15 were willing to kill Greyhounds in contravention of the law. And it is not a small elemnt. Many of the one sI know that enage in this soc alled sport seem to have little regard for their dogs well being. And don't get me started on the cruelty in horse racing.

a lot of it is because we have overpaid ars4holes in the igb that dont do their jobs that they are being over paid to do and the same can be said about the british greyhound board allowing any dogs let alone greyhounds to be transported to these countries is a disgrace did you notice they were not all greyhounds. i wonder if they showed horses being put down in the same manner which happens by the way and a lot more than greyhounds yet rte jump at every opportunity to promote the sport and dont you think its ironic that soon after clare daly asked in the dail about all the horses that are put down every year that the spotlight is turned again on the greyhounds and one of the fancy stables in the horse racing fraternity has an open day for the public to go visit to see the way the horses are treated and again splashed all over rte.

maybe they should broadcast some live abortions and maybe that might change peoples minds just like the greyhounds prevention is better than the cure

Classic RTE, deflection from real issues Greyhounds a minority sport, easy target to demonise.
Real issues that affect the majority, like Housing, Health, mass immigration, Garda corruption are shoved under the carpet

Cruelty exists in all sports human and animal. Banning these sports is not the answer but tighter regulation is. Greyhounds and horses are in the eyes of the public and can easily be identified but what about cats and other animals that are not micro chipped and often suffer appalling cruelty that is never documented? What about the careless owner who overfeeds his goldfish causing them to gorge themselves to death? All animals deserve respect and singling out those animals involved in sport is not the solution as we allow animals to be butchered for food having their throats cut and choking on their own blood in the name of halal to please non Christians citizens of our country. If actions need to be taken against cruelty to animals IMO it needs to address what is happening to animals within the food chain as well as to animals involved in sport.

No
I see how this works now and in an effort not to be idle would suggest that the nuns might have missed a trick in the residential institutions.

They could have hired out the fastest running kids or the ones who had sinned that week to coursing clubs and even the fox-hunting fraternity.

'Jimmy, this week you are in the fox-skin. Teresa, here's the hare-skin. Off yiz go and an apple each for yiz if you can string the dogs out a bit'.

One does so love pie at times.

It’s now all the fault of Muslims.

Coincidentally the other day in France I saw an Arab woman get irate at a bunch of young women who accidentally reversed into her car. When they left she called them ‘chien’. I thought it was funny that she lived up to the stereotype.

Can't believe Hare-Coursing is still legal. I thought that would have gone by the wayside decades ago?
which would you prefer legal where the hares are looked after or illegal where packs of about 5 or six lurchers hunt and almost all of the time every hunt ends up in the hare not only being killed but torn to shreds plus the greyhounds are muzzled and the lurchers are not having said that most of the greyhounds that are put down are coursing bred ones because most of them dont want to chase the artifical lure on the track so when the coursing is over after maybe 4 months of the year those dogs are no longer any use to them but the track dogs are a bit different although sometimes some of them wont chase the dummy hare.

This is a thread about greyhounds so if all the greyhound owners on here who are trying to derail the thread by ranting about abortion could just f*ck away off that'd be great.
