Claire Byrne moves to the News at One and will alternate with Áine Lawlor.

Late Debate to be presented by Sarah McInerney on Tuesday, Fionnuala Sweeney on Wednesday and Katie Hannon on Thursday.

Cormac Ó hEadhra takes over the Saturday lunchtime slot from Claire Byrne.

Good additions to the Late Debate and Cormac Ó hEadhra's bump up is certainly well deserved.

Sarah McInerney? You have got to be kidding me? A good addition? Seriously?

She's a middle-aged Vincent Browne, without the intellect.

And three different presenters of the Late Debate?

By the way, are they phasing men out of current affairs?

News at One, 6-1, 9pm, Late Debate, Marian Finucane

Well for those who don't like her as a presenter she has a voice like honey sliding across silk so you could think of the show as an informative lullaby!

Morning Ireland is still mostly male. This Week is all male. And Today with SOR is the flagship current affairs slot. I think it's pretty well balanced.

I presume this will be headline news on RTE for a wek or so, and then we will have endless rounds of interviews with the "stars" on the LLS and on Ray Darcy?

RTÉ cares more about being PC than reporting the facts. It's all jobs for the women these days.

But a clear message to aspiring male presenters at RTE , RTE is not the place for you.

Burkas are to be mandatory so as not to arouse Muslim listeners who would otherwise not be responsible for their actions.

It obvious gender is paying a huge part in these shake ups.
As it should. But there is good balance and can you tell me which male presenter is hard done by? All of the women listed in this shake up tower head and shoulders above some the male current affairs "talent" on the airwaves. Newstalk are shocking offenders in this regard with Paul Williams (twát of epic proportions), Shane Coleman (more insipid than water), George Hook (windbag), Jonathan Healy (misery porn peddler), etc.

The excellent Audrey C is on MI, as is Rachael English. SOR has his flagship show, but so has Marian. The rest of the news reading (and now LD) is nearly all women.

Do you think a 'the men are better than the women' answer would be accepted?

Your comments about Newstalk are of course on the money.

Except in the context of these discussion do you even notice it though? A presenter is either good or they are not and their numbers will reflect that.

Do you think gender should matter when it comes to putting these programs together content etc , i.e. show producers.

RTE has about 70 -80% of it producers female , Newstalk over 90%.

Why does gender imbalance only seem to matter if there are more males than females and never the other way around.

I think RTE have a level of balance where addressing a yawning gender disparity is a non-issue for them. So they can select on the basis of talent. The only male presenter who comes to mind as one who might warrant being bumped up is Conor Brophy.

But a post back you were saying that gender should be a factor when they selecting presenters. Obviously you only think it matters when it is male presenters.
