Interview with Leo Varadkar's parents removed from RTÉ website | Irish Examiner

RTE should not have agreed to the interview because Leo's parents requested that "assistance would be provided to them" by Leo's staff.

That's why they removed it - it looks bad - and raises questions about their impartially.

Looks bad for Leo as well - has to stage manage his parents.

While a shorter version of the interview was aired by the State broadcaster this week, an unedited recording was available on the online RTÉ Player.

Near the end of the interview, Ms Varadkar is asked by RTɒs Conor McMorrow if she believes the press is “tough” on her son.

“No, no, so far they’ve been pretty kind to him I think, but it could turn nasty sometimes I think,” she replies.

An unidentified third voice off-camera asks: “Can we do that again?” to which Ms Varadkar replies: “What do you want me to say, the media are lovely?”

The voice off-camera responds: “I was just going to suggest that maybe if you could say: ‘He’s always very good at dealing with the media.’ ”

The man further suggests that Ms Varadkar should say: “He’s able to manage the media very well.”

Ms Varadkar then tells Mr McMorrow: “I think he manages the media pretty well, and they are kind to him I suppose.”

The interview was removed from the RTÉ Player, despite the site previously stating it would be available for viewing for the weekend.

A spokesperson for RTÉ declined to identify the third party, but denied any suggestion that the interjection was because the broadcaster deemed Ms Varadkar’s comments unacceptable.

A Fine Gael spokesperson did not name the man heard on the footage, but said he was a member of the Taoiseach’s staff, adding that Mr Varadkar’s parents “agreed to the interview on condition that assistance would be provided to them by a member of his staff”.

What else do you expect from state sponsored scum like RTE.

This truly is the worst thing I have ever heard, and just goes to show that although I knew this all along, it is about time other people agreed with me. And that's before we also get to linking this to other pet peeves that no one but nutters really get annoyed about.

So we know they employ these people and are we supposed to be surprised when we get some tit bit like this?

What do you think a media consultant is paid to do?

Yes and Vlad is Taoiseach in good part due to his Greek chorus of hacks.

RTE impartial? The same Stickies/Labourite infiltrated RTE who put that pseudo-intellectual champagne socialist in the Aras? The same RTE that ran an interview with FF's dumb and dumber saying that nothing was happening when other channels were filming the IMF walking down the street in Dublin? Or is it a different RTE? :)

In fairness it was the electorate(not me BTW) that put Michael D into the Aras not RTE.

No. It was the Labourite infiltrated Frontline programme and the continuous refusal of RTE and its "interviewers" to ask Higgins any hard questions while interrogating other candidates.

I feel nothing but contempt for anyone who pays the licence fee. To contribute to the RTE propaganda machine that works against the good of it's citizens is shameful.

Well clearly he doesnt manage the media very well, if this sort of coaching can be heard in the background on the interview.

Tune in next week when a shock claim is made that Leo's mammy isn't really sure of how to run the country.
