it seems the Her Majesty's Royal Navy have had another review. This time it appears that two top submariners may have launched their torpedo with the help of some female crew members. As a consequence he has been relieved of his duties and is to be disciplined. The alleged indiscretions happened while the Nuclear powered sub was on tour in the US. Two senior officers have been dispatched to the US to deal with the fall out

Both the Commander and his executive officer have been thrown overboard while allegations that relations with female subordinates were closer than expected are now being investigated. Her Majesty's navy has moved a long way from the days when Churchill described it as rum, sodomy and the lash. The Irish navy being less resourced is simply on the lash.

It's not a question of women on board, rather one of standards. Are the officers saying that the women at the centre of the investigation don't meet the required standard? Who's to judge?

Make your own mind up!

I don't understand why consensual adult relationships are treated as "improper" - unless of course one of them is in a position of authority over the other. I think some of this goes back to Cromwell and his harsh Puritan discipline over the New Model Army in the ECW.

In the you, ess, and Ay, it tends to be the Air Force officers that get caught doing the sex with their subordinates. The Navy seems to be too busy crashing their canoes into stuff.

Is there lots of bum in it?
So its a case of periscopes up and Dive Deep...

Look how on earth you send men and women to sea on a submarine of all places and expect nothing to happen is beyond me...

Why do you think women were not allowed on ships of war for centuries?

The 1st woman Commander of a RN ship was involved in something similar a few short years ago as well:

A disgraced female Royal Navy captain, removed from her ship amid claims of a sexual relationship with a male officer,

No....he does describe the occasional rendezvous but they're fairly few and far between. However, he's such an eloquent writer that it's a real joy to read.

The biggest objection to sending females to sea came from the wives who were left onshore.

I reckon when they are on long "maneuvers" like this they ought to be allowed shag all they want, while discretion is the key word etc.

Reminds me of the joke about the kid who sees mammy and daddy having it off and daddy says, here comes my submarine going into your harbour.

So when a knock comes to the door and the caller asks for daddy, the kid replies, 'daddy is busy parking his submarine in mammies harbour' :)

It's alright for Admiral Nelson to ask Hardy for a kiss, but poor Sally Sailor can't ask to handle a sailors rope.
