Conor Lenihan's Moscow employer Skolkovo has been raided by Russian police who are investigating an €85m fraud. There are no indications that Lenihan himself is involved in any way.

Russian tech project backed by Lenihan is now political football - Independent.ie

Seizure of documents and other investigative actions were carried out last week at the offices of Skolkovo Innovation Fund on Krasnopresnenskaya Naberezhnaya. Law enforcement officers were looking for documents and other materials related to the activities of the fund's former CFO, Cyril Lugovtsev, who is being investigated in a criminal case.
There are also accusations that Skolkovo bribed Russian MPs.

Interesting.

Even more interesting when you see who the backers of the Skolkovo project overall happen to be.

An eclectic mix of rather initimidating looking Russian gentlemen and American bankers.

Does this mean Athlone is no longer the capital of Greater China?

I'm sure Conor was selected from a field of people with a demonstrable expertise in international trade, a sophisticated level of understanding of technology and an exquisite touch with the international business community.

Either that or the Lenihans had him people-smuggled out of the country before he made another statement and got them all lynched.

To be fair, the Skolkovo project was all about getting mainly US multinationals to do FDI - and Ireland is in a league of its own on that score. Lenihan is ex-Minister for Innovation, so as good a 'big name' as can be got it this field.

Innovation... is that what they call it now? What innovation did Conor Lenihan oversee? The biggest thing about Conor Lenihan's name was the surname and that was always only relevant in Irish politics and that only because of the Lenihan family pull in that political backwater.

He isn't exactly known as an international fixer.

From the OP article:

"Investigators have accused a top Russian manager at the government's flagship Skolkovo Foundation of making improper payments worth $750,000 to a State Duma deputy with close links to the street protest movement, according to a statement posted on the Investigative Committee's website".

This is the sort of political interference Putin does not like, in his book businessmen must stay out of politics or face the consequences, Mikhail Khordokovsky being the prime example.

If it escalates Conor should be aware of drinking tea or otherwise with friendly men and cross the road when he sees an approaching umbrella.

What the Russians want of Conor is his access to IT multinational companies which he gained through his position in Irish Govt, would think he is now very well paid and looked after but would be doing Ireland no favours, in fact quite the opposite.

Well the Skolkovo institute didn't need Conor for his address book. And Ireland is a corporate backwater for major multinationals who are in Ireland predominantly for tax reasons.

If you look at the Skolkovo Institute's Board and advisory panels I think you'll find people way out of Crazy Horse's league.

Viktor Vekselberg is President of the Skolkovo Foundation and I think he doesn't need Conor Lenihan's address book much...

These Russian lads have to spend most of their time keeping onside with Putin and his mates, lack of attention to same could be fatal, Lenihan would have a good address book and skilled in attracting inward investment which Russia lacks except in oil/energy areas.

Conor Lenihan is not some major figure on the international business stage. He never was. His address book ran to Terry Prone and Mammy O'Rourke at best. Apart from Irish civil servants who are unknown outside Ireland- except by reputation:)
