Russian state officially accused of attempting to mess with the upcoming elections by U.S. government!!!

BREAKING: Obama Administration Formally Accuses Russia Of Attempting To Interfere With 2016 Elections

The Washington Post reports:

The Obama administration on Friday officially accused Russia of carrying out a wide-ranging campaign to interfere with the 2016 elections, including by hacking the computers of the Democratic National Committee and other political officials.

The denunciation, made by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Homeland Security, came as pressure was growing from within the administration and some lawmakers to hold Moscow accountable for a set of actions apparently aimed at sowing discord around the election.

The DNC publicly disclosed the intrusions in June, saying their investigation determined Russian government hackers were behind it. That was followed shortly afterwards by a major leak of DNC emails, some so embarrassing that they forced the resignation of the DNC chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, on the eve of the Democratic national convention.

The administration also blamed Moscow for the hack of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the subsequent leak of private email addresses and cell phone numbers of Democratic lawmakers. A series of other leaks of hacked material followed, all of which are suspected of being conducted by Russia-sponsored hackers.

Sounds like Watergate for the 21st century. 40 years ago plus they had to physically break in to get the information. Nowadays all they need do is fish info from a hard drive.

Haldeman and Coulson must be turning in their graves when they see what Putin can get away with.

They probably are trying to interfere with the elections and knowing Obamas naivety and unpreparedness in foreign policy and letting HRC away with the unsecured email server they might just succeed.

I don't think Trump can win any more in a fair election after those tapes. (Then again remember the Gennifer Flowers Clinton tapes). I think Putin has overplayed his hand.

Nothing so dramatic. Watergate was a cover-up. We know what the NSA are up to. These days such stories have to compete with the Kardashian clan dramas- in other words no-one cares.

Donald carries a large shovel with him wherever he goes, confident he can get out of any holes he dig. They are getting bigger and time is running out.

Trump should not be depending on foreign Dictators to win his election.

No you don't. The problem with a lot of the coverage on the Snowden revelations is that the people who were writing about it in the press were not the kind of professionals capable of analysing such revelations. There was some good coverage by real professionals but the usual happy-clappies didn't have a clue. Some elements were extremely worrying to those who understood what was being discussed but there was a lot of "but that's impossible" reactions from some who should have known better. The whole Snowden thing basically faded into the background. Sometimes physical access to these devices would be required but NSA, and no doubt other intelligence agencies, has departments for that kind of black-bag work. The Russians might be an easy target to blame but there are other countries who are quite active in attacking the infrastructure of the West.

Quit stripping the context of posts to suit your own posts. Never mentioned the Russians, Snowden nor any of this. I was addressing a completely different point. I'm surprised you think any of this might be new to some of us.
