Saudi Arabia is still a backward dump for most of the population, then again It's a mainly Muslim Country so hardly surprising.

Not to be a dick, but what are the driver's license pictures going to look like for the women in Saudi Arabia?

P.ies mysoginist melt down.

Fecking Muslim's and their anti-wimmin attitudes.

"What?, they're allowing their wymmin drive cars? But that means more wymmin driving!"
People like you are part of the problem but you lack the self awareness to know it.

Women drive is one of #RaifBadawi demands which led him to prison.. #FreeRaif now
Yes that hashtag reminds us there is a long way to go.

Women can already drive its just the US and UKs best friend and paymaster is deeming they can have their permission to do so.

Watch the media fawn over this as something great when you have a backward bunch of camek jockeys moving into the 18th Century.
Were they allowed drive camels?

It could be argued that the camels drive them.
Verily, so it was allowed.
Intriguing. I would have thought that being bumped along by a surly dromedary would be more damaging to the ovaries.

And how can a veiled woman drive safely? The Saudis have gone mad.

The old-style nuns used to brag that their veils gave them 'custody of the eyes'; they could only look straight ahead. And you all know the jokes there used to be about their way of driving.

I'm in northwest London, and at one time , a few years back, there was a rash of veiled Muslim women-drivers around here. They drove like zombies, and didn't seem to have any road-sense. Whatever happened, you don't see them anymore.

On Saudi roads they will be no more dangerous than the men, who are also "veiled" - it's a real problem, neither men nor women drivers have effective peripheral vision

Welcome to the 20th century.
There can be a perception that the whole of humanity is on a single trajectory and that 'we", the white people of Europe and North America, are the pathfinders, with other lesser people following in our footsteps.

This is not true.

Liberal Democracy, The Industrial Revolution, the Age of Enlightenment, the Reformation and the Renaissance, The Holy Roman Empire, Rome, and beyond that Athens and Byzantium is our history - it does not belong to others.

The Arabs trace their history to Babylon, not Byzantium.

How generous of them.
Women everywhere there will be thanking their man owners.

But maybe there man owners will not let them drive.

Either way the abuse of women is not going to be an issue for the playground Socialists.

As soon as Eoghanacht was asked to simply say discriminating Against women was not okay its radio silence.

What type of consistency can there be in his outlook when that happens?

Fair play to you for at least nodding towards condemning the Saudis and guess what it didn't make you an islamophobe. Tell Eoghanacht it's possible.

He thinks feminism is a tool of the far right.

None of the gushing reports I have seen make the observation that, under Saudi law, women will still need the permission of their husband or male "guardian", before exercising this amazing new freedom.
