We hand over €1.25Billion to unsecured bondholders, and this is reported on the same day.
The cuts will have a devastating impact on services at WRH.
Also not a dickie bird from the four sitting TD's,which is disgraceful, yet not surprising. And The three government TD's obviously have no shame.

Isn't one of the problems with hospitals in general that they tend to use up their budget, blithely go over it and assume that the DOH/HSE will take care of it? The new reality seems to be catching them short and showing up their overall management IMO.

Yes, this is exactly what used to happen, however the new Minister for Health has told (and stuck to his word) the hospitals that if there is a budget overrun then they will have to deal with it themselves and will not be getting "bailed out" for bad financial management as what used to happen up until this point.

Wages are 70% of the health budget.

All these hospitals have no problem paying locums, agency staff, sick leave, overtime, 12 porters etc.........

The hospitals need to restructure.

I suppose these 'savage' cuts are catching up to the rest of the country now. There are no cancer services in the NW. They were moved to Galway.

When the SP/SF/ULA get elected there will be no cutbacks.

You will just need to pay a lot more in income tax, property tax, wealth taxes etc.

Ah the best yet was that Magee was before a Dail Committee and he labelled the Primary Care Strategy as "ambitious". Christ, I got the distinct impression that the Health Strategy and the Primary Care Strategy 2001 were both extinct....but apparently not! Over eleven years since those documents were published we were suppose to see 1000 multi-disciplinary primary care teams in-situ, with 500 GP's and 2000 nurses assigned to these teams. However, it has taken them eleven years to create 425 teams....god only knows how long it'll take them to createthe 489 that they also plan.

Very insightful.

But try telling that to someone critically ill. Or those whose loved ones suffer or die because the hospitals are under resourced.

Get real, for God's sake.

This is the most callous, murderous government this Country has had to endure.

Start putting people and society first for a change.

Sure, reduce wage bills, waste etc.

But not at the expense of patients. What we have is more a pogram than a programme for government.

So, you admit that people are not being treated properly - BY THIS CALLOUS AND MURDEROUS GOVERNMENT?

The one composed of two parties who totally renaged on their responsibilities when in opposition?

The one that, in less than a year, turned its back on Pres-election promises?

The one that (correctly) blames FF and the Greens for the systematic destruction of the State but which is every bit as devious?
