Who is this tool and how did he end up with this cushy number in life? Who voted for him, where, when, what has he contributed to the country or anything?

I don't honestly know which of the ideas is more ignorant, but I guess I'd have to go, on purely technical grounds, with the idea of passports being used to register IP addresses.

I'd be able to write this off as "ah well, it's just one ignorant politician", but he's saying this to a bunch of politicians with the power to make legislation about it!

Most cyberbullying is not anonymous. It's done by texting and on Facebook, where the identity of the poster is quite clear.

Note how they suddenly get concerned about this when one of their own is harmed by it. They didn't care beforehand. Shows what's wrong with the body-politic in our country.

Senator Coghlan's proposals will be music to the ears of certain people in Beijing, Moscow, Tehran etc. who fear the internet for the platform it provides for dissent. It belongs in the same constitutional dustbin as the blasphemy ban will hopefully soon end up. When the latter was passed, such beacons of democracy and freedom as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia cited it as justification for their own corresponding legislation.

Senator Coghlan should know better. He should (pardon the pun) run away from this idea fast.

Just.... lol.

edit: and this

Senator Fidelma Healy Eames raised the issue of when someone's Facebook account is changed by someone else, and said teenagers are literally living in a parallel universe.

She said: "Where a youngster has their status opened and another person puts a message on there, as if they wrote it, and that message could be, for example sexual. This type of thing has to stop.

"There has to be some controls put here. What about sexting, where they are texting sexual images?"
Down with that sort of thing.

Eamon Coughlan. Alright at running. And that might be the height of it.

I thought it was going to be Fidelma Healy Eames!
Fidelma did provide this gem:

Literally living in a parallel universe? How can we see them so?

some Labour senator said that we all should have an online visa and the Gardai should track pornographic tweets.

Coughlan also said that we should all have to submit our Passport numbers or credit cards when we want to comment on stuff.
