Serial Ineptitude: Trump makes a FART Act ....

The United States Fair And Reciprocal Trade (FART) Act is real, though the title may be a joke thought up by a disgruntled White House staffer, Apparently, it gives the President unlimited power to impose tariffs and drop World Trade Organisation rules - a breathtaking power grab as the even the Founding Fathers or the most powerful and imperial Presidents did not seek such authority over tariffs. The President has the legal authority to impose tariffs when they are required to protect national security (which includes threats from Canadian cheese and German luxury cars, according to Trump).

Commentator Jonathan Bernstein:

  • The policy is nuts; virtually all experts, both in trade and in foreign policy, believe global trade is very good for the U.S. {Hey, who needs experts? "We are all tired of experts")
  • In fact, according to media reporting, almost everyone in the White House thinks the bill “is unrealistic or unworkable.”
  • Why does it exist, then? Because Trump ordered it, and sometimes the best way to mollify a president is to give him what he wants — very slowly, and without anything actually happening. Apparently this thing has been kicking around for months.
  • The bill has virtually no chance whatsoever of being enacted into law.

It is probably the case that Trump wants to wield these powers not to improve the position of the USA, but to threaten and bully foreign leaders he dislikes, like Angela Merkel and Justin Trudeau. The "best dealmaker in the world" really knows only one strategy.

Ok, two strategies, - the other one is abject compliance, as with Kim Jong-Un or Vladimir Putin.

The FART Act story just illustrates that Trump still has not come to grips with how the American Government works, and still hankers to be an autocrat or monarch. From the bungled first attempt Day One to craft a Muslim Ban to now, this has been a tale of serial incompetence. Even botching the title of the bill is a symbol of just how inept the White House is, and the fish rots from the head.

Trump’s Ineptitude Is No Joke
The administration’s missteps continue unabated.

Is it all hot air?

Trump is interested in this because he wishes to earn more money for his business.

Your God-Emperor Lard Arse voted, and he was all for war. "What are we waiting for?" he roared.

'Trump emphatically urged the United States to remove Libyan dictator Moammar Gaddafi from power.

Here’s Trump, in February 2011, urging an intervention on his video blog. “I can’t believe what our country is doing,” Trump said. “Qaddafi in Libya is killing thousands of people, nobody knows how bad it is, and we’re sitting around we have soldiers all have the Middle East, and we’re not bringing them in to stop this horrible carnage and that’s what it is: It’s a carnage.”'
