The last two years were suspended, he'll be out in less than 6 years. The sentence was not anywhere near severe enough.

If he had committed these vile crimes in America he would have gotten at least 20 years.

My god, this is an actual quote from the article.

The judge stood by the sentence he handed down.

"As far as I know the man did his community service -- he also gave €40,000 to a charity which, my understanding is, they used to buy a house in Calcutta to shelter street children who may otherwise have found their way into the kind of trade that Tim Allen was found guilty of supporting," he said.

Ah shur, maybe he did it ,maybe he didn't. Who knows??!

And in effect jailed for life in the likes of California where they can do detain sex offenders beyond their sentence if they can argue that they are still a threat to the public.

Its a strong sentence for sure in an Irish context but his offending went far beyond downloading kiddie porn photos on the net that seems to be the typical offender.

Well if he was an illegal immigrant in California he would probably get a softer sentence. The District Attorneys are elected and California is a minority-majority state.

Rumours abounded at the time that Allen took the fall for someone else and Patwell knew the truth, hence the light sentence.
All rumour and conjecture, however if true you have to admire the courage of Allen and the commonsense of Patwell.
There was that rumour going around alright regarding Tim Allen.

6 years for garlic man’s tax evasion, no trial for Wallace’s admitted tax evasion, similar sentence for this pervert and threat to children.

It’s Ireland’s peoples fault (see O.P thinking this is fair) , we allow judges rule us as gods , we should fire them for not doing their jobs, we own the country.

I would vote for any party, left or right, that promised a referendum giving the people the right to sack judges.
