Maybe they heard it was being increased for McNulty, so they were looking for the extra seat this would have created on the board to preserve the uneven numbers, i.e. the seat O'Regan got.
but Sheila O'Regan was appointed to the board 6 days before the 18th on the 12th, that second extra seat was already gone.

The board numbers were only increased to accommodate McNulty, so as to make it look like he was qualified to stand for the Senate Cultural Panel. O'Regan was appointed at the same time because the board has to have an uneven number of members.

If Enda hadn't been trying to get McNulty into the Senate, they would have left the board of IMMA alone.
So the Taoiseach lied when he said the appointment was a matter for the Minister, either he or some other FG Official wedged him in there.

Over to Kenny.

problem is we don't know who was on the 5 member executive council Seanad Selection sub-committee he overruled, none of them are willing to talk.

John McNulty got Imma post within two days of request

Documents released to The Irish Times under the Freedom of Information Act show Minister for Arts Heather Humphreys had appointed him to the board within two days of it being established there were vacancies at the museum.
The emails lend credence to Opposition claims that Ms Humphreys was pressed by unnamed Fine Gael officials to appoint Mr McNulty quickly to the board of a cultural institution in order to boost his credentials for the cultural and educational panel of the Seanad.
She should be sacked as well, especially since she was involved in trying to cover it up. This is even worse than what people originally suspected and she was aware of it from the beginning, we now have the emails to prove it.

Humphries should resign. She is a disgrace.

Kenny is an even bigger disgrace.

I think Enda was selling himself short when he said it wasn't his finest hour.

It's gombeenism of the highest caliber.

Ye can't beat the aul New Politics all the same.... ye couldn't bate it with a big stick.

I'm sure there was something else going on before this current round of SF bashing.... what was it now.

Hardly the one about the Taoiseach lying about his role in appointing a crony to a State board.

It's hardly that is it.... ?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht
National Cultural Institutions (National Concert Hall) Bill 2014: Discussion

Head 17(2) states that all appointments by the Minister shall have regard to an independent assessment process based on a published skills matrix to be drawn up by the Minister and managed by the Public Appointments Service. I hope that clarifies the point. Clearly, there will be a reference to gender quotas, as appropriate to legislation as well.
skills matrix template from Deloitte http://www.corpgov.deloitte.com/binary/com.epicentric.contentmanagement.servlet.ContentDeliveryServlet/CanEng/Documents/Not-for-profit Organizations/Corporate Governance/Sample_NFP_BoardSkillsMatrix_Deloitte_CCG_May2011.xlsx

Apart from McNultygate, what is the problem?

Is she making any attempt to brush up her Irish?

what do you mean apart from McNulty she misused her position as minister, she should be gone, the media havn't forgotten about it thankfully, most of the political correspondents held off fully critiquing her actions because of mistaken sympathy and not wanting to destabilise the government.
