the results are in. the Allianz Global Wealth Report 2017 ranks Ireland 19th in the Global Rankings by net per capita financial assets and 17th by gross per capita financial assets. If you take GDP per capita numbers Ireland would come in at 3rd behind Switzerland and Norway. But that of course would include all the other non resident people's money at Apple, Intel and the like.

Ireland EUR
Gross financial assets 368bn
Per Capita 77,860
Net per capita 45,100
GDP per capita 56,290

World Average
Gross financial assets 369 trillion
Per Capita 33,570
Net per capita 25,510
GDP per capita 12,490

Some interesting stuff in there. Europeans are scaredy-cats:

While Americans have bought securities worth a total of more than EUR 700 billion in the last five years, Europeans consistently sold securities throughout this period, disposing of around EUR 350 billion worth of securities. The last few years thus confirm the cliché that Americans are more willing to take risks and to trust the stock market with their money, while Europeans are more anxious and do not trust the markets,or no longer trust them

and, surprise, surprise the Germans are the most risk-averse of all:

In Germany, the land of the “savings world champions”, changes in the value of portfolios account for only about one quarter of asset growth, i.e. Germans are “working hard” to achieve most of their asset growth by investing fresh savings. The box below shows how hard Germans are working for their money.

add the tasc report on distribution of wealth in ireland to the picture and you get a pretty good idea of where things are.

1% of the population in Ireland hold 15%-20% of the financial wealth. so roughly 40,000 (coincidentally roughly the number of income millionaires in the country ) hold 30-40bn euro. the 20% on top hold some 60%-80% of the wealth in the country or some 140bn euro. the 80% on the bottom can fight over 60nb euro or 16k euro per capita.
