The confirmation of Mary Lou McDonald as Sinn Féin president today could be a historic day for the left in Ireland and it is being streamed on Twitter, Facebook and You Tube. By-passing the 'official' media may be the way to go for those with an alternative viewpoint to the same old cliche-ridden news discussions that are the staple diet of RTE/Newstalk.

I await the new leader's first speech with some anxiety as if she declares for a socialist Ireland, I may have to get off the fence and join.

Ireland first! is the call.

Cis whites Catholics saying Ireland first is very American.

It's the first time Ireland has had two cis white Catholics as the leader and deputy leader since...

End of an era. Oh of course they are women. So it's two cis white Catholic women.

Interesting discussion about the going around the establishment media. The fake news media as they would have been called before that term became loaded with Trump.

But fake news they were and fake news that are.
They are clever to speak directly to their base themselves without every 5 mins rte talking about the Adams, hard men and whatever shyte Sean o Rourke might add.

Its called avoiding debate and reducing a parties contribution to societal debate to nothing but political propaganda.

As if anyone believes the leadership of SF is changing.

Coronation's suck.

Cowen's sucked. Arlene's sucked. Today's will suck.

Every time there's an uncontested anointment - particularly when when it happens in politics, it sucks.

Don't forget Theresa mays!! I expect mary lou to stick to the script today but watch the interviews in 3 months from now! I can see ff sf coalition after next election. Martin's last chance (if ff behind fg seatwise) sf can sell cross border cooperation after brexit ministers holding similar briefs in ni and republic! And this present system of government is crazy

If she commits SF to a socialist Ireland, then presumably she'll be ending their opposition to property taxes

SF socialism is the same as all the other parties like FF FG LAB Green PD etc. ie they just want to regulate.

Socialism:a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
SF dont want to the people to own all the factories and farms in Ireland.

They want to create a "fair society" by means of social transfers. Same old crap we have had in Western society for a hundred years.
It just creates a depend and useless welfare class.

So you're saying that it's time for me to move even more of my assets offshore?

Fair enough, thanks for the heads up!
