The below map shows the Sinn Fein vote in Cabra-Finglas.

Sinn Fein would be on about 20%, but probably wouldn't have got a 2nd seat on 09 votes....

Now now D4, don't start this Northside v Southside divide. Although you are right to an extent Finglas is full of former "volunteers". Don't be surprised if Labour lose a seat in that area to another Shinner.

You can clearly see by that map the more peasant the area is the more they vote for the likes of SF.

I wouldn't be too comfortable if I was a Shinner- this isn't the only bump on the Road for them.

THE trial of a former Sinn Fein councillor and widow of an IRA commander for the alleged sexual and physical abuse of her stepdaughter begins tomorrow at Belfast's Crown Court.
Briege Meehan (66) faces eight charges, including gross indecency with a child, indecent assault and cruelty to a person aged under 16.

You should look at the voting trends down in Drumcondra where your pal Bertie was voted in time and time again.

I can safely say very, very few of us in Finglas/Cabra voted for him.

Clearly socio-economic backgrounds are not proportional to good candidate selection.

The cabra part is but not finglas.SF have 2 councillors here and will comfortably add a 3rd next year.
I'm not so sure about the comfortably bit - tho I do think they have a chance. Their problem is that their vote is stronger in Finglas than in Cabra, but that Cabra/Ashtown has two-thirds of the votes. In other words, it will be hard to balance a 3-way ticket.
