One of the better things I've seen in a while was Snowpiercer (post-apocalyptic scifi movie with the last remnants of humanity all abroad a train :) ). It's a few years old but doesn't seem particularly well-known. Very good, though, even if probably too violent for a 14 year old. This is on Prime now (rated 16). I think there's actually a TV series in production based on the film.

American Gods a miniseries looks good, just downloaded it but haven't watched it yet.
Series 1, in particular, was pretty good. Series 2 was not quite as good (seemingly a falling out with the original directors and the replacement guy they brought in seems more pedestrian). Very adult though in parts, e.g. one scene in series 1 comes to mind where someone having sex with a love/fertility goddess is basically hoovered up into/consumed by her lady bits (might make for uncomfortable viewing with teenagers present :) ).

In terms of series on Amazon Prime, IMO the scifi series The Expanse is great. Probably takes a while to get going in series 1 but then really takes off and successive series are even better (quite an element of political machinations in it too). Probably my favourite series on either netflix or amazon prime. The Man in the High Castle is also very good (currently watching fourth and final series). Preacher is pretty good also.

The Wire - all seasons.
The Wire was a great series, second only to The Sopranos in my opinion, but the dialogue was sometimes hard work without sub-titles. Even then you needed to refer to a glossary of unfamiliar terms to understand it fully.
I met a guy from Baltimore earlier this year. He told me it wasn't entirely popular in the city - for understandable reasons.

Have you watched The Irishman yet? Maybe a bit too rough for the 14 y.o. although the violence is still pretty subdued by modern standards.
It's a long film. I watched it over two nights.

The Deuce from HBO available on Sky Atlantic in its third season now. James Franco plays Twins in it set in the 70/80s a look at the explosion of porn and prostitution in New York and how it became controlled by the mafia( especially the porn industry ) Its up there with the best of them imo.

The Deuce: Season 1

Watching His Dark Materials on BBC, also on HBO.

I never went to see the cinema attempt to film Philip Pullman's classic (The Golden Compass), but I understand this is much better.

Have recorded Elizabeth is Missing with Glenda Jackson (BBC), not watched it yet, but heard it is brilliant.

Heard Knives Out is excellent.

Apparently, it is modernised Agatha Christie, with Daniel Craig as a "hot Poirot" from Louisiana.

For the younger people the good place is a great comedy.

For the older the Kosinski method with Michael Douglas is brilliant.
