I know that they are going to do away with the Current 25 Seats and replace it with 18 seats and take the 5 Electoral districts and turn it into two districts, I think then they are also going to abolish Sligo Borough Council , but isn't there another 12 seats on the Borough council as well, giving us a total of 37 seats overall in the Sligo County region?
Are they going to reduce that to 18 in total, effectively cutting the number of councillors in half ?

Sligo Today News for Sligo County - Super sized body to replace Borough Council

I found this article and I trawled the Council website but couldn't find a decent summation of what is to be the electoral picture for Sligo next year. Anybody got any detailed final info on the final set up? How many seats in total and where?

The maps in your link are the final boundaries Bonsai.

Just two electoral areas making up the new 18 seat county council. Ballymote-Toberrcurry (8 seats) and Sligo (10 seats).

The borough council will be abolished ,its functions will be carried out by the 10 seat Sligo part of the council which will be known as the Sligo municipal district.

Is it true to say then Clive, that the entire curent 37 seats of Sligo county will be reduced to a total of 18 seats? Collooney Ballisodare and Sligo all falling under the remit of the municipal district?
That's one hell of a catchment area for 10 councillors to try and get elected from. it will be a bloodbath.

Yes that's right , commission quite surprising in their decision as their terms of reference would have allowed for a 22 seat council.

Thanks Clive,
So in South Sligo we will see the existing 12 seats replaced by 8. Where and when will there be a comprehensive list of the candidates, do you know ?

There are going to be electoral bloodbaths all over the country bonsai.. with only two electoral areas for the whole of the county, you are likely to see 25/30 candidates per ballot paper.. great craic altogether.. lots and lots of localised voting methinks

What do you think ROC , will the old reliables still be reliable ?
For example that Fianna Fail Seat in Ballymote held by Martin Baker, that was formerly held by the Boxer Conlon and its almost as though it written in the stars , or gutter maybe, that its a FF birth rite to occupy that seat. If there will be three or more old reliables then that means you'll have in effect 9 incumbents fighting for five seats against 20 pretenders.

Or is it all up for grabs and the reliables are a thing of the past?
