Hi Guys,

From the ground & as a one man SME I have heard recently from some clients that business is up this year, more work coming in .. green shoots at last, yippee

So heres the BUT:

In all cases they said more work and business coming in BUT it is impossible to get paid for that work. So plenty of work .. for free?

Credit being pushed way way out - each week / month that passes where you are not getting paid lowers the value of any profit from that job? Plus ( as is in my case ) supplier credit has dried up in alot of areas ( not because I am a bad mark :D ) - suppliers / distributers have been stung by others so COD. Hence any product you buy for client is, cost wise, crippling your cash flow on two fronts. You have paid for the product but the customer isnt paying you for ages for this product. In effect alot of SMEs are becoming Banks for their client base.

If we are all getting more work but not getting paid or credit is way out there - are we in fact being busy fools? You would have to ask whats the point of being busy with work but then not getting paid for same?

Add to all this Revenue Tax payments, Rents, Rates, Utility costs which one cannot put off regardless of cash flow.

So the green shoots tell part of a story that might be true in that business is picking up but the part not told is we are not getting paid for this new extra business. Those shoots are not so green are they?

Get over it, we have turned a corner and the light is shining brightly.

The Great Enda Kenny and Fine Gael haves rescued Ireland and the doom porn mongers cant understand how their doom porn has gone so wrong.

My suggestion is you all move to Greece and you can have your doom porn and keyboard revolution.

What doom porn have i mentioned above? I am in business along tiime, I tend toward pragmatism and do not get involved in doom porn, I tell it like I hear and see on the ground - far more reliable than media / political spin.

If you believe in shiney bright lights then good for you but no such shiney lights on the ground where I work.

Does Seismic Change run his/her own business and/or depend on one for their living??

Supply and demand.
Whats supply and demand got to do with this? I did not mention that myself or any clients had a product/service that was not selling. Read the OP, it says business is up but not getting paid for same .. nothing to do with supply and demand.

Is your idea of supply and demand - Supply Supply Supply but dont bother paying for it. Now thats a great business model you have.

The sign of a hopeless troll, or worthless hack.... when you are not sure if they are serious or taking the p1ss!

Either way, the outcome is the same... a few giggles, followed by the ignore button!

Who are you having a go at robut? We can be happy there seems to be green shoots ,but surely if businesses are doing each other over, then that is something you have to work out for yourselves.

Yeah - people need stuff done to stay in business but don't have the money to pay for it. I'm afraid this kind of SME bankrolling was standard even in the good times - as far as I recall from the analyses surrounding the prompt payments act(s), the SME sector was owed something like €10 billion by larger companies, and that would have been in 2002-ish.

Are we being busy fools? Hard to say - if you do the work, then you might not be paid, but if you don't do the work, you can't be. So if it's not preventing you doing other definitely-paid work, or looking for it, then it's worth doing.

He's a troll still sucking of his mothers tit. The closest he comes to running a business is trading pokemon cards.

Onto the point of your OP. I no longer do any work that doesn't involve getting paid straight away unless the clients are long time customers. Even then I can get burned through no real fault of the people involved. It's a complete nightmare listening to the excuses as pay for work already completed can't be given or is put on the long finger. My own mortgage has to be paid, my fridge filled and my children looked after.

I despair sometimes - the joy of getting jobs is often tempered with the fear of not getting paid and getting stuck with the cost of the job into the deal.

Well....if Kennylite and the Bluebellies were that good...then we better all be nice to them...or else Mutti Merkel will dispatch them to Athens to fix Greece.....you are all ungrateful pups.....for not seeing the genius evident in FF policies administered by FG and the Stickies.

I don't need credit I need customers. And I won't get them with more tax hikes and less money in their pockets.

That's the real problem demand is low
Credit caused the problem in the first place!

Such comments are anecdotes and utterly meaningless. Similarly, anecdotal counterpoints are equally meaningless.

Yes agreed. But I only brought up the point to illustrate that some in media / Gov seem to think footfall and a packed shop means business must be doing well. It is not the case if most of these people are not spending while in the shop. Many of my street retail clients will atest to this. Shop full of browsers is all fine but if they have no cash to spend ...
