.... the little minx scribbled off a funny article for Village magazine.

https://villagemagazine.ie/index.php/2018/01/needed-mass-party-of-the-socialist-left/

It reads like an undergraduate term paper from a student struggling to get a pass mark, genuflects to the trendy social issues of the day and is cliché-ridden to a cringe-inducing extent but I suppose that she deserves a big pat on the head for undertaking such an onerous task.

Her views on Brexit and Northern Ireland highlight, in a very real way, the complete lack of an intellect - something that becomes evident every time that she opens her mouth in public.

That's a hoot. The article says more about the quality of Village magazine that it would publish such piffle. I remember reading similar nonsense in various 1980's comics whose names escape me now. They were always on about 'mass' movements, ignoring the fact that the various left factions couldn't agree to sit in the same room let alone organise a 'mass' anything. The best bit is where she says the left was 'propelled forward' in France under Melenchon - yeah, she clearly didn't bother waiting for the actual election results.

I think you've summed up Ruth and her obvious limitations perfectly.

She is spectacularly and relentlessly unimpressive whenever I've seen or heard her on the airwaves... airwaves she's given far too much access to imo.

Back in the day Ruth's suggestion to privatise the Dell plant in Limerick because among other things, Dell 'owed Ireland' for some reason... should have awoken many people to Ruth's limitations and to her cluelessness and to her utter stupidity...

I didn't read the article but glanced through it and didn't see any mention of the North or Brexit, but I see she mentioned "capitalism" in it. The SP leaders or most of them are the most capitalist/capital-ist people you will ever meet culturally if not financially. They're Dublin-centric West Brits who have a disturbing interest in Russia in the early 20th century. Some people who don't know them will actually think I am joking.

It would mean taking control of land and the ability to build homes on a mass scale out of the hands of developers, building companies...

She also wants to run Starbucks, and take over from the existing management.

Where will it all end. In liquidation, I suppose.

And liquidation was what happened after the Russian Revolution. Liquidation of those who did not agree with the program.

I couldn't get further than the first few paragraphs.

Same ole same ole.

There have been a few mass movements composed of the working class (I hate that appellation) over the last decade. The anti water charges one was truly massive. But it seems obvious that that type of movement isn't what Ruth is referring to. Nope. By a mass movement of the working class, Ruth mean a movement that she and her comrades can infiltrate like a fúcking virus, that will then cause her idea of a revolution, which is of course, a body that will put her and her non working class fellow germs into a position of power where they rule so that we can all live happily ever after.

Give me the bucket!

Not the collection bucket.

Ideas, not rhetoric or worse still, dogma, generate support. If Ruth and pals ever had a good idea, it'd die of loneliness. Putting morons and movement wreckers into power isn't a good idea, it's not even a poor one.

I pretty much agree with nothing you ever right, but in a spirit of detente I agree that the mass movement stuff of the micro left I find wearying...and also for the reason you describe....the "mass movement" however did have one huge success...water....one of the few occasions you see the right in this state utterly routed, so many contortions did they attempt to get this through......all we're left with is obsolete meters and another layer of bureaucracy..

You're betraying your sexism with your snide reference to little minx and pat on the head. If it was written by a Socialist male you wouldn't comment on it.

I'm no fan of Socialists but if an article in the Village magazine bother you so much that you have to start a thread on it she must be doing something right.

Wasn't Coppinger a teacher before she got elected to the Dail?
The kids do not know how luck they are, that they have escaped, her tyranny, in the classroom.

I actually read the article. It is very light, but does not feed the "Ruth is a moron" narrative. She does not say much, and I wonder if seeing the piece in isolation is disingenuous. It looks like a comment for a wider piece on political positioning of parties. More like something that would be put through the letterbox.

I'm at the other end of the spectrum to Ruth, but this article is fairly generic. Think it is out of context.

I'm not a fan, but there are no references to Brexit or the North in that article, so I can't but think you're just trotting out a bit of an agenda of your own here.
