A planned economy based around human need not profit, catering for free health care, education, full housing etc, committed to ending competition driven tendencies like racism, sexism, prejudice and war.

Ireland could surely do with a system like the above and in conjunction with other comradely nations could become what Connolly called 'a beacon to the world'.

Still our country has some of the most vehement and passionate opponents of Socialism, cynical in the extreme even on basic concepts of socio-economic solidarity.

What's going to be needed going forward due to globalisation and automation is a fusion of socialism and capitalism. Otherwise inequality, homelessness etc will keep rising and we'll have revolutions and chaos.

Why because people are unique and all different. Who wants other people to plan for them & tell them what to do all their lives.
We are still cleaning up the mess of Soviet Socialism. Even they had to kill millions of their own people who refused to think like they were told.

Socialism is a failure, a cul-de-sac holding out the promise of utopia but forgetting that humans who play at God end up becoming the devil.

No system is perfect or will be perfect but to succeed they need the facility to breathe, adapt,change and fail without Big Brother controlling them.

A gang of workers in a factory won't make any money - in fact they cost a lot of money though wages
But when directed what to do by the boss, then money can flow and business can develop
So once you get rid of the rich boss, you will have an idle factory and a high wage bill
And an angry mob waiting to give to you what they gave the boss

Capitalism was the biggest promoter of uniformity in the 20th century.

We are still cleaning up the mess of Soviet Socialism. Even they had to kill millions of their own people who refused to think like they were told.
