Okay Kommunist this was probably my fault. I ask forgiveness. I wish this edition of Socialist Voice well and I would say to IR that the CPI are the best and most genuinely prod-friendly Republican group out there.
I'm an Agnostic and don't practice the brand of supernatural BS I was born into, so I should really desist referring to myself as a prod. Besides, not sure if the Communist party has a future, to be candid.

I've traditionally been of the opinion that there is no point in uniting Ireland and removing one form of (imperialist) parasitism, tyranny and oppression and permitting another form of oppression (capitalism) to remain. But we have to be realistic. How many affluent middle class professionals currently resident in the RoI would be prepared to sacrifice their materialistic lifestyles and embrace the ideological objective of Socialism? How do we create a 32 county Socialist republic if the appetite isn't there even among the proletariat?
That'a very true. Irish people who are referred to as 'working class' or 'workers' by the Left don't see themselves as such. Irish people are very aspirational even though a considerable proportion of younger people won't be as well off as their parents in terms of job security, housing in spite of having attained higher levels of education.

Are Irish people aspirational to the point of delusion?

Starting this month I will publish every monthly edition of the Communist Party paper 'Socialist Voice'. Cite the article you'd like to issue a response to and I'd be happy to discuss with anybody regarding said article or even ask the authors themselves to do so.

Thanks and give it a read, they are very thought provoking.

Communist Party of Ireland

Do you actually publish it, or are you saying that you're going to post a link to it each month on p.ie?

Your conclusion is false -

Communism was never implemented in Russia - you cannot build communism in a country with 90% peasantry

Capitalism - yes - in a most naked and exploitative form - much more so than even the neo-liberal capitalism of the 'West'

Any unification based on capitalism is more likely to be bonapartist in character than a continuation of the weak open economy we have.
If true Socialism/Communism was Democratically elected to run this State, how would it be implemented? Would we have a Venezuela type situation if this style of Government happened to be elected??

With the passing of communism into the dustbin of history as an ideological alternative to democracy it is time to do some accounting of its human costs. Few would deny any longer that communism--Marxism-Leninism and its variants--meant in practice bloody terrorism, deadly purges, lethal gulags and forced labor, fatal deportations, man-made famines, extrajudicial executions and show trials, and genocide. It is also widely known that as a result millions of innocent people have been murdered in cold blood.

....

Communism has been the greatest social engineering experiment we have ever seen. It failed utterly and in doing so it killed over 100,000,000 men, women, and children, not to mention the near 30,000,000 of its subjects that died in its often aggressive wars and the rebellions it provoked

Also, I'd prefer not to discuss the Trots on this page. I don't entirely care about their history. They can make their own threads / posts if they desire.

Thank you.

'As regards Ireland, unification won't necessarily bring the 32 county Socialist republic desired by Socialist Republicans. In all probability, a continuation of the status quo is a more realistic forecast.'

Would you consider that a 32 county 'republic' in the sense of the 26 counties we have now will make organizing a cross-Ireland political movement capable of delivering Socialism?

In this case we no longer have the direct force of the British security apparatus, for example.

Is there a word missing at the end of that sentence? Either "easier" or "harder".

And I don't think it's "the direct force of the British security apparatus" that is holding up the delivery of socialism. The vast majority of people just aren't interested in it.

What is that ideological objective then?

No private possessions?

Just for clarification -

In 1989 the CPI changed the name of their newspaper from 'The Irish Socialist' to 'Socialist Voice'

In 1989 the Militant Tendency changed the name of their newspaper from 'The Militant' to 'Socialist Voice'

The CPI changed the name of their paper about a month before the Militant - nobody from the Militant were aware of it because they weren't selling any copies of it (collapse of Stalinism and all that). When the Militant changed to the Socialist Party the paper's name was changed to 'The Socialist'. The paper of the Militant Tendency / Socialist Party has been published in a consistent and regular basis since 1972

I think you're mistaken. They changed the name of their paper to Militant Socialist in 93/94 and changed it to Socialist Voice in the early - mid 2000s.

There you go! A few posts in and someone wants eutopia! The only Trot free zone was 1940 in Mexico. I propose that all pick axes are exempt from VAT.

The dreaded black book of Communism. Not even the most rabid of anti-Communist western historians cites it friend.

Nope Hitch - I'm not mistaken. Never called 'Militant Socialist'.

The paper's name changed from 'Socialist Voice' to 'The Socialist' in 2004

Hardly surprising that you agree with some derogatory comments about the assassination of one of the leaders of the Russian Revolution - then again the Stalinists were a dab hand at killing off most of the leaders of the October Revolution.

I'm open to correction on dates, but I'm fairly sure you're wrong on MS, I have a collection of left wing newspapers I'll try dig out a copy of MS if I get a chance. I think you're also way out on 1989....the SP paper was 'Militant' until at least 92.
