Solidarity Housing - Getting the Vultures Out Of Irish Housing, Sunday 15th May 1:30pm.

Jul 7, 2015
At least 90,000 households on the social housing waiting list, 61931 mortgages in arrears of over 90 days, 4262 people in emergency accommodation, and 102 rough sleepers in Dublin alone.

The housing crisis has reached levels that cannot be ignored. But the solutions offered have involved more dodgy deals with developers, more subsidies to private landlords, and giving away more public land. This won't solve the crisis but it will make profit for developers, landlords and speculators.

The Workers' Party has launched a costed policy proposal called "Solidarity Housing" which aims to actually address housing needs. The proposal is for multi-income public housing addressing 3 issues: the high costs of market rents, the social segregation and marginalisation which characterises many public housing developments, and the current high cost to the state of public housing provision.

Interested in finding out more about the proposals? Gavin Mendel-Gleason will be giving a talk about Solidarity Housing on Sunday 15th May at 1.30pm at Workers' Party Head Office 24/25 Hill Street Dublin 1. All are welcome to attend! (There will be tea and biscuits)
