Something Labour does believe in - Keeping McDonald's out of posh areas

There are wigs on the Green at the moment over a proposal to introduce a 'flagship' drive-thru McDonalds in one of Ireland's finest and most dignified locales, Sandymount.

According to the Irish Times, there have been a number of objections from locals, including that:

Several objectors said the proposed restaurant would “substantially alter the settled, peaceful and residential nature of this older part of Dublin”. They also criticised the lack of consultation with local residents.
The revolting residents are being supported in their crusade for old decency by Labour councillor Kevin Humphries, who complained:

“This is already an extremely congested junction. The proposed location is close to the Aviva Stadium, the O2 and Irishtown Stadium and if this McDonald’s drive-thru was allowed, there would be compete gridlock. The traffic implications alone would make this development unacceptable.”

However, in addition to the traffic problems, there were real concerns for the health of children in the area, Mr Humphreys said. The site backs on to St Mathew’s primary school and is also close to the Star of the Sea primary school.
Is it Labour policy to object to proposed McDonald's restaurants throughout the State? Or are they ok with the lumpen proles stuffing their fat faces with Big Macs so long as the quality don't have to be subjecting to seeing them?

Mc Donalds (Mc Sh*t) should be resisted by everybody for so many reasons not just the fact they feed our kids crap.

I think the two on O'Connell St. should be shut also, Mc. Donalds has no place in a modern Ireland so they should be kept out of everywhere.

It's important that politicians make our healthy eating decisions for us. Sure you can't trust people to do that themselves.

The human right to earn a livelihood being confined by Sinn Fein to what they actually approve of, I see.

The idea that any job no matter what is a good thing is childish and stands up to no scrutiny whatsoever. If a person disapproves of a company or profession then they are perfectly entitled to express the opinion that they would prefer those employees to be working elsewhere.

I remember when McDonald's opened in Tullamore many years ago, there were concerns, I wouldn't put it any stronger, from residents of nearby houses, who feared litter problems and also feared there might be anti-social behaviour.
In fact, neither happened, the company seems to be controlling its litter adequately, and the restaurant is too far away from any pubs or night clubs for anti-social behaviour to be much of a problem.
Moreover, it doesn't open late at night, so its clientele is mainly families. Nowadays, even graduates are glad to work there! I don't recall any councillors objecting when it was opened in Tullamore, but my memory may be faulty on that one, I am open to correction.

I was referring to the person who owns the franchise. He has a right to a livelihood. Something the Sinn Fein poster conveniently forgets about. Shinners are funny like that, you will find.

I lived near a secondary school one time and there was a small chipper nearby. Even though the chipper stayed open until after pub closing time , the owner told me their busiest hour was in the middle of the day when they would be swamped by schoolkids. A litter bin outside the door used to have many " healthy " lunchpacks dumped , unopened , in it every day.

I was a teenager when the first McDonald's opened on O'Connell Street and Grafton Street. We made a special trip to go in to it. It was all very exciting.

But yes sticking one near a couple of schools is asking for it
