Radiohead are suing Lana Del Ray for her new song, claiming it's a ripoff of Creep (Which itself had issues with the Hollies).

It's a pretty egregious example, how on earth did this not get picked up in production.

Lots of it going about with Ed Sheeran in the news for it, and Led Zeppelin still being sued by folks.

Any examples of "homages" that people particularly liked or disliked?

Exact same chord progression even down to the minor change on the last chord. Just a different key. Had to have been a conscious choice to copy.

According to the comments she offered 40% but Radiohead are insisting on 100%. I think 40% is about right. The song does go off in a whole other direction in the chorus's.

If they ever allow the copywriting of chord progressions it's all over for everyone.

I always thought that the Stones going after The Verve regarding Bitter Sweet Symphony was stretching the "you copied that" argument.

The Verve didn't copy the well-known Stones' rock version of "The Last Time", but rather a totally different sounding orchestral version of the song that Andrew Loog Oldham had come up with.

The totally different sounding orchestral version of the song had been written by a different composer, using "The Last Time" as an "inspiration".

Was it the Stones themselves, or some Wall Street money guy that owned a piece of their catalog that went after The Verve?

There's even a bit of Vivaldi in a Beatles track.

The latter. Their business partner. He owned all of their catalogue up to a certain point.

But he ended up with that catalogue legally, and in order to go after The Verve had to act "on behalf of" Jaggar and Richards. Their names were on the original song.

"Mashed Potato" by Dee Dee Sharp was a rip-off of the Marvelettes "Please Mr Postman."

("Mashed Potato" was a dance craze back in the day)

You've solved a 20 year old mystery for me. :) I distinctly remember being told by someone that the Stones' song that it supposedly resembled was Sympathy For The Devil, which I could never, ever see. I can see a sort of resemblance to The Last Time although it's tenuous enough as well.
