"Sorcha McAnespy, who now sits on Fermanagh and Omagh District Council as an independent, said she was willing to contest the internal Fianna Fail poll, which will take place at the party's annual conference in Dublin next month.

Ms McAnespy quit Sinn Fein in April 2016 citing "misogyny and nepotism" within the party at a local level."

Northern Ireland politicians nominated for top Fianna Fail roles - BelfastTelegraph.co.uk

She is a good talker and with a higher profile could be a reasonable candidate for FF in West Tyrone.

The only question is will FF finally start running candidates in the North East?

They've committed themselves to the locals in 2019.

Can't see FF doing very well in the North East. With the right candidate there's possibly a council seat in the Glens in 2019.

What are the ideological or policy differences between FF and SF? If McAnespy is only concerned about "misogyny and nepotism" within SF (nepotism not a FF thing in the past?) surely there must be some stuff she'd have to compromise her position on in order to switch to the FF Party line?

Are there any differences between SDLP and FF apart from current jurisdiction focus?

Even though I'm a Socialist (albeit a culturally conservative one) Fianna Fail is my favourite Centrist Party. The massive role that they played in bringing relative peace to Northern Ireland is something that any Nordie of good will should be incredibly grateful. Where we live our Fianna Fail TD is such an incredibly amazing Christian gentle man who really tries his best to serve the people.

I would have though the multiple forms of Theft that fiaana fail have practised over the years would not be compatible with Christianity ..

I suppose there are other parties not all that different....

A lot of hypocrisy in political parties and by many practising christians .

Only at the expense of the SDLP.
Not necessarily. Paisley Mor had several FF Politicians invited to his funeral but NO Fine Gael ones. There is a jibe that the DUP is the Presbyterian version of Fianna Fail which though unjust has a certain amount of truth to it. I can only see FF entering Northern Irish as a good thing.

This is nonsense. Without Sean Leamas and Charles Haughey the ROI would still be poorer than Northern Ireland. FF weren't to blame for a global depression and it is the height of parochialism to claim that they were. The corruption that Bertie was guilty of is incredibly minor to what Nordie Politicians both Green and Orange get up to- my reaction to the Mahon Tribunals was is that all the hawks in the UK Deep State could find on the lad? And remember that sent an agent over to stich him up.

Are you suggesting FF socially liberal and economically right wing but with a decent rep in your locality? That Politically positioning would still be a reasonably big shift for McAnespy.

Huge differences. The SDLP would be more closely aligned idealogically with Fine Gael. The SDLP are only nominally a socialist party these days and culturally they are centre right on most issues. That said, when it comes to elections here, 9 times out of 10, identity politics trumps left/right issues.

If you think unionists will vote FF, you're certifiable.

Fianna Fail aren't right wing economically. They are centrist.

By Ulster Prod standards they are socially liberal but by the standards of the rest of these Isles they are again centrist.

My best friend's parents growing up were Alliance Party members but they had basically a Fianna Fail attitude to politics (the Alliance Party is basically Prods for Politeness- it contains everyone from close to Socialist to close to Libertarian politically, if the tribal mess was sorted out it would cease to exist). The border issue will be decided by a referendum so there is no point in anyone sensible voting
I think that FF could win over a significant amount of Prods though not a massive amount.

My local TD is on Left of FF.

One thing I love about my ain wee folk is that very often they full of all sorts of surprises. Over generalizing about Ulster Prods if you have actually been around for a long time is certifiable. The border issue will be settled by referendum- Fianna Fail are happy with that fact.

Riddle me this; why did Paisley Mor invite several FF politicians to his funeral but NO FG ones?
