The Afrikaners are starving

Posted on 30 August 2010

South Africa’s 3-million Afrikaners are in increasingly desperate straits, with nearly one-third now living in dismal squatter camps where they are denied government benefits, government food-aid and medical care – and by law, are also denied access the job market…

Reports of babies and elderly Afrikaners dying of malnutrition are already emerging this year, amongst others reported by Dutch investigative journalist Saskia Vredeveld in her documentary “Poor whites in South Africa’, filmed in Coronation Park near Johannesburg and screened on Dutch IKON-TV earlier this year. She reported details about the death of a newborn Afrikaner baby – from hunger.

There is growing interest from abroad in the so-called ‘poor white’ problem. Dutch investigative journalist Saskia Vredeveld and Australian photo-journalist Dean Saffron were only the latest of a long line of foreign journalists who have reported extensively from Afrikaner-poor camps this year.

I saw a documentary on the dire straits many Whites in South Africa are now going through not too long ago and it was shocking, to say the least.

In many areas, the ANC have simply replicated Apartheid-government behaviour, but this time against Whites (and especially lower income Afrikaners). In many areas it would seem they have learned less about establishing racial equality, and more about taking revenge.

Racial discrimination is never justified, and what many whites are going through in SA right now is exactly that.

I suspect that blacks under white ruled apartheid had greater opportunity than whites under black rule.

Given this thread, I presume you think that the Afrikaners should leave South Africa to the indigenous peoples?

I believe all peoples should have their own territory and that borders should be granted HIGH importance. I believe that no peoples should be ruled over against their will.

No, I think South Africa should just be divided into two unequal portions, the larger going to the blacks. Problem solved.
I actually half agree with you. I think in the long run the whites will need some sort of 'homeland' within SA (kind of the mirror image of one of the bantustans in the apartheid era). This could be carved out from the land around Bloemfontein in the Afrikaaner heartland on the High Veldt. However, there would have to be free movement between it and SA, and any modern version of apartheid would have to be strictly prohibited.

Do you honestly expect us to take anything written by the 'Odinist Press Service' seriously? Undoubtedly there exist a growing number of working class whites whose conditions of life have grown worse over the years, but that has more to do with the continued implementation of neo-liberal policies which affect all poor South Africans regardless of colour.

The reality antiestablishmentarian is that SA has adopted a clearly anti-white policy via its Affirmative action laws and is allowing ANC members exploit these laws to enrich themselves at the expense of ALL working class, par for the course in Africa it seems !

Affirmative Action - A constitutional analysis

The entire apartheid apartheid system was based on an extensive system of racial classification. Based on this racial designation, the white population were advantaged and other racial groups were reduced to inferior citizens. Racial classification has created inequalities over the whole spectrum of the South African society and was the principal inciter of racist sentiments.

It is therefore understandable that the Constitution of 1996 declares non-racialism as a founding principle of our government system Section 9 of the Constitution also explicitly prescribes that discrimination may not take place on the basis of race, colour or ethnic origin. In subsection (2) it is stipulated that legislation or other measures may be instituted to protect and promote people or categories of people who had been disadvantaged by unfair discrimination.

This subsection, together with subsection (5) that determines that discrimination may take place if such discrimination is fair, have become the justification of affirmative action. "Fair" discrimination is not defined; instead, it is somewhat meaninglessly stated that discrimination would be unfair when it is not fair. (This is an example of a blatant petitio principi.) Section 9 was a brave way of describing to the right to equality, but it cannot possibly be applied as a cure for all inequalities. Affirmative action in its variety of different forms has imported a new form of racial classification. The so-called generic determination is that "blacks" means black people (Africans), Coloureds and Indians.

This new type of arbitrary racial classification led to a variety of contradictory, unfair and unconstitutional practices. These practices have resulted in a situation where, similar to the much "Whites Only" notices that caused so much discord and hatred, explicit and implied "Blacks Only" notices are now being put up, on a large scale, on both public and private terrains. Affirmative action, as currently applied, and the associated "transformation", which is an unconstitutional term, has had a paralysing and negative impact on nearly all areas of public administration.

At the same time, it has become the foremost breeding ground for racism and racist sentiments. Instead of protecting those disadvantaged and promoting their interests, affirmative action has become an instrument for punishing white people (regardless whether they supported apartheid or not, or were not even born yet during the apartheid years) for the advantages they had in the past. South Africa needs a system of affirmative action to address the current realities of poverty and need from ground level and not from above. And least of all does the country need a system born from racism and hatred rooted in the past.

Having lived in Bloemfontein for 15 years of my life, all I can say is... A fate worse than death

That is the norm in Africa. Sadly we have been fed (and still are) the glossy version of the ANC and Mandellas legacy. It has been obvious for a long while that the truth is very differant.

Nothing unusual about that though. It is rare enough that young states anywhere function well in early years. Corruption tends to take control. As we know to our own cost and we ain't in Africa.
