UDA-linked community groups have been handed £5 million from a government kitty that has been compared to a paramilitary slush fund.

A Sunday Life investigation into the controversial Social Investment Fund (SIF) reveals how loyalist paramilitary figures who sit on the quango’s steering panels are demanding — and being given — massive amounts of public money for their pet projects.

Among those with huge influence over how the £80 million SIF budget is allocated is notorious Bangor UDA criminal Dee Stitt, who last week posed for photos with DUP First Minister Arlene Foster.

Other key players include the UDA’s former leader in the Maze Prison and Lisburn commander Adrian Bird, and convicted UDA gunman turned failed DUP council candidate Sam ‘Chalky’ White. All three paramilitaries were appointed to SIF steering panels, which recommend how cash is handed out, with DUP and Sinn Fein approval.

During the past two years Stitt, Bird and White have successfully lobbied for more than £5 million of taxpayers’ cash being spent on UDA-linked projects that pay their wages in Belfast, Lisburn and Bangor.

Worthy of a read, as the details are disturbing.

UDA criminal gangster thugs have gone from intimidation, extortion and protection racketeering of local businesses to ripping off honest, decent, hard-working tax-payers via post GFA NI government funding.

You couldn't make it up ...

Assorted terrorists getting paid not to be terrorists.

I don't hear Hilary Clinton mentioning that when bigging up her pivotal role in negotiating the "peace accord".

I heard they want £26 million because (they say) that's what the IRA got from the Northern Bank robbery/payoff.

I dare say FARC will benefit in much the same way in Columbia. Bringing dissident groups inside the establishment has been a tried and tested method for a long time.

It's nauseating but cheaper than the alternative.

Classic whataboutery from our non-unionist, pretend Kafflick, unionist, pseudo-Socialist, God knows what he'll be today vivid imagination merchant.

If the Ra were in fact responsible, and hitherto no irrefutable evidence has been forthcoming to convict those at the top of SF or the IRA Army Council; the Ra pulled off the biggest bank heist in Irish history and were rewarded with a place in government. Now it's revealed that the UDA have been doing their own form of robbery, albeit in a less brazen and more clandestine manner.

Off to mass later? Perchance a non-unionist unionist Socialist meeting?

How on earth you can complain about the Northern Ireland forum when your only contribution is opening countless inane threads so you can indulge in yet more name calling is beyond me.

If you don't get any responses from me it the future it is because I have blocked you.
Goodbye. I'd advise everyone else to do the same.

This thread is not "inane". It's about a relevant news story which reveals how the UDA has been covertly siphoning off tax-payers money via government funding for shady UDA so-called social projects, and instead of contributing intelligently and constructively, you intentionally responded with whataboutery, and in a defensive attempt to divert discussion.

Like literally all unionists on this site, be they non-unionist unionists, unionists or otherwise, you have nothing to respond with, as like all unionists, you have no arguments and no defence. It's interesting that the only poster to like your asinine post was "Castle Ray"; a well known intolerant bigot.

You guys are a total disgrace to the unionist community of NI, as you have not the faintest notion how to deal with Nationalists and intelligently argue the case for the defence of your union. A pitiful, intellectually vacant, puerile, morass of moronity; that's the PUL collective of P.ie.

One of the most marvellous things about Brexit is all the drinking money the Orange Order get from Brussels is going to dry up very soon and Im sure that the Tories are going to tell you to buy your own Buckfast.
