I think these should be made available. I come from the angle that purchasing a property is the biggest financial decision that most people will make. Having full information or as much as possible before making this decision will allow people to make better decisions.

Why are crime statistics not made available on a per station basis?

Why create street-level maps?

Police.uk is a key part of the government’s wider policing and justice reform agenda which seeks to increase the transparency and accountability of the criminal justice system (CJS). The police no longer look to government for their targets and priorities but rather to local communities and the police and crime commissioner who will represent their community. Crime maps, along with access to crime and justice data and the introduction of police and crime commissioners, will help the public to hold their local police and other public services to account.

Very handy if you were a burglar; a nice map of quiet areas where the residents aren't expecting any break-ins. Just the ticket.

I've actually made up a map of arson attacks in our area the other day, we have someone getting their jollies out of burning cars and vans each weekend. The map has allowed us to see the small area that this is happening in and has allowed a few conclusions to be drawn about where the perpetrator might live.
It's useful on a local level but should only be made available to groups such as neighbourhood watch groups.

If it was stats per street then yes this would happen, if per stats per station then that's a different story.

Quite so. However, I was only responding to the OP suggestion. The old law of unintended consequences is a favourite of mine.

I remember chatting to a Garda about this and he was against the idea because he thought it worked unfavourably against the decent lawabiding residents in an area. Also unless you're totally new to a city, you should have a fairly decent grasp of what the ups and downs of different locations, if not ask around. Also, a ramble/drive around the neighbourhoods at different times in the week should give you a good idea of what the place is like outside of real estate viewing times.
