The High Court was told that an article by Paul Williams in May 2007 reported alleged links between the IRA and another man, Christy Griffin, who had been convicted of a serious offence and was a garda suspected for criminal activity.

The article also alleged that Christy Burke put down the phone when on RTÉ radio's Liveline programme to avoid debating the issue with Paul Williams.
It was also claimed that Christy Burke was being untruthful when he said during the programme that he did not know Mr Griffin.

In its apology the Sunday World said both of these allegations were untrue.

Burke didn't run in the last General Election.
I did not read the Williams piece. As far as I recall from hearing the subsequent 'debate' between Paul and Christy, moderated by Joe Duffy on Liveline,Burke was representing the SF party.
William's allegations that day were scattered and wide ranging. After a clearly exasperated Burke gave up on the debate Williams stayed on the Liveline.
There was subsequent calls to the show, including one from a Portlaoise cell made by John Daly who was unhappy with Mr.William's writings. He called Williams a "f*****g liar".
Williams also argued on-air with another caller from Finglas that day, an Alan Bradley.Mr.Bradley was also displeased with reports about him that were written by Mr.Williams.He called Williams a "lying c**t".

So now the Sunday World is calling Williams a Liar. And we now have two liars and an honest Mr Burke.

Whether Christy stood for the 2007 lection is irelevent -what is important here is the fact that the article was designed to damage Sinn Fein just before an election. - nothing new there.

Lets see what surfaces in the comings weeks as Pearse Doherty is poised to take Donegal south-west.

Susanne Breen, Williams, Madman Harris - which one or all of them who are busy now constructing their weapons of mass destruction for Doherty's campaign?

And still this muppet is considered an authority and true crime fighter by the establishment media. How many times can someone be found to have been telling porkie pies about people and still be treated as a reliable journalist?

About time too.

Paul Williams really is scum.
Unfortunately, the climate of S31-induces censorship allowed liars like Wally Williams to pose as serious journos. He also lost a case to Joe Whelan.

As we'll see during the Donegal SW bye-bye election, there are many more, especially in the O'Reilly empire, who are afraid of SF's serious intention to tax wealth fairly.

What were the details of the case he lost to Joe Whelan?

Surprised that there's not more comment on this issue given that it's an attempt by a journalist to subvert democracy by intentionally lying in the run up to a General Election.

...and before all the usual hypocrites respond with the usual lines about Sinn Féin and democracy etc... blah blah blah... do two "wrongs" make a right?
