They have just watched FF get a severe kicking from the electorate, for continually supporting incompetence in Government.. and there are now FG supporters here, who think they are going to benefit in the long run.. by continually supporting incompetence in Government.
Arguably, the GE was FF's to lose and it was Mehole's fanatical anti-SF position and the change of focus from FG as being FF's main opponent to SF that lost it for FF. If the reports of Mehole being "advised" by Eoghan Harris are correct, then the outcome was inevitable. Any decent FF leader would have destroyed FG over the RIC/Black and Tans commemoration. Under Mehole, it seemed like FF also wanted to commemorate the RIC/Black and Tans. SF capitalised on this strategic failure and a whole new generation learned of the Black and Tans state-sponsored terrorism. There's nothing quite like the resentment created by having been lied to and the Dublin media presstitutes and their attempts to whitewash the Black and Tans and the RIC just added fuel to the fire. The farce of RTE trying to keep MLMcD out of the leaders debate damaged RTE's already low credibility.

Had FG decided to call an election before Christmas, it might actually have won enough seats to become the major party in a coalition governent. The legendary incompetence of FG struck again and FG didn't call a GE when it could have done well. To compound that error, it left the neo-Unionist element in FG (Charlie Flanagan, John Bruton etc) push for the commemoration of the RIC/Black and Tans. The Unionist Bruton even said on RTE that the Black and Tans should be commemorated. And yet FG expected to do well. FG's reliance on poncing about on Social Media and fart sniffing sessions with presstitutes rather than addressing the day to day concerns of the electorate set it on course for a bad election.

The irony is that FG has exactly the same problem as FF: leadership. Varadkar is not an FG leader. He's a product of progressive presstiututes in the Dublin media bubble who have an overwhelming need to virtue signal. Coveney would have been a far better and more popular leader. That's why the FG grassroots voted for him rather than Varadkar. Martin is not an FF leader either. He's an FG wannabe who spent years kissing Bertie Ahern's and Brian Cowen's arses. The Capitulation and Surrender agreement where FF was not in government but not in opposition made SF the "official" opposition. It was a massively stupid mistake.

Both FF and FG, in going into goverment together, have dispelled the idea that they are separate parties. To the electorate, the faces in the departments might change but they are are all the same FFG party. At this stage, SF's best electoral slogan is "Vote FF, get FG.".

That may backfire if FF & FG voters start to transfer to each other and bring the last seat into play. At some stage, SF will have to decide to stay with the 35% "left" vote or target the rest of the electorate.

Possibly. But it may also result in fratricide as FF/FG candidates wipe each other out leaving other candidates to creep in ahead of them for the last seat since the necessary votes for the last seat were split over the FF/FG candidates rather than concentrated on a single FF/FG candidate. Now that brings up another possibility. An FF/FG electoral pact.

Micheal Martin is going against the GFA....that's up to him if he wants to play silly buggers and be SDLP lite.
He and FF/FG are not the GFA,as it's already an International binding agreement...spelled out in great detail in black and white.
Attempting and Revising the GFA will be Fianna Fails biggest ever mistake, with wide ranging consequences.

Is the decision to run a border poll in the hands of the secretary of State?
