hi all, just listening to the news where they have speculated that enda kenny will appoint Averil Power and Alan Shatter to the Seanad.

With this in mind, lets start to speculate on the full 11;

Averil Power
Alan Shatter
James Reilly
Michelle Mulherin

Averil Power?? ....Seriously??

There is no God.

Although, it would be interesting to see how, even though nominated, she'd manage to hold a re-count.

Why is nobody thinking of Frankie Feighan, will the Taoiseach not have to make amends for
the way he dropped the Roscommon deputy.

The d4 media will demand he appoints lots of middle class women, gays, and immigrants. Therefore I'm guessing both Dil Wickremasinghe and her lesbian lover will be nominated.

If she had the slightest amount of respect for herself she'd refuse it on the basis that she has been twice rejected in a general election and once in a council election....the message is pretty clear.

I very much doubt that Alan Shatter would accept such an appointment

I would be surprised if Bannon, Shatter and Reilly weren't there and then 8 other FG losers from the GE - take your pick.
Though Shatter not happy with Inda at the minute

Bannon or some other FGer from Longford has to be there.

There are a number of local county councillors who have been mentally measuring Bonkers for his political shroud for the last few years but none of them wants the others to be given the leg-up of a Seanad nomination, so Bonkers it will be (or some randomer who isn't a serious contender for the nomination next time).

Not sure I agree with that.

Why should she turn down an appointed position because she couldn't get an elected one?

On that basis nobody should accept an appointment because if they haven't stood and been rejected then we don't know what the verdict of the people would be on them.

If they are elected, they don't need an appointed position.

Easier to get rid of appointed positions, but to be fair to Enda Kenny he tried to abolish the whole Seanad and all of the appointed positions in it, but the voters wanted to keep it.

Why should people be fair to him?

The Seanad needed reform not abolition.

Kennys attempt to abolish the Seanad was the act of an uneducated individual with little culture or political insight.

I really hope when their time comes that the people who voted to keep this Gravy train going for all the political insiders die a long slow painful death.

If Kenny meant anything as a political reformer he would transfer completely his priviledge of nominating large numbers of senators to the Irish local authorities thus enhancing local democracy.

Has Heather mentioned McNulty yet to Enda? How about Michael Flately to pair up with Frances Black, that old provo who used to sing with the Wolfe Tones and Labhrás Ó Muruchu? An Oireachtas super group!

Because despite him being an uneducated individual with little culture of political insight, they elected him Taoiseach anyway?
