Another lesson in the irrationality and vacuous posturing (and deceptive self interest) of Socialists and the "progressive" Left.

Eager to pay more taxes? Then look no further than Norway.

Hammered by the opposition for slashing taxes and going on a spending spree with the country’s oil money, the center-right government has hit back with a bold proposal: voluntary contributions.

Launched in June, the initiative has received a lukewarm reception, with the equivalent of just $1,325 in extra revenue being collected so far, according to the Finance Ministry.

"Taxes are too low, blah bla blah". A common refrain everywhere. But when put to the test, nobody seems to think they personally pay too little.

There is no revelation in this, but it is worth posting such incontrovertible real world proof. The next time one of our Leftie friends complains that "taxes are too low", they always mean for thee and not he/she.

They should have a 'kickstarter' style scheme - you get to pack particular projects, rather than just pouring money into a general fund.

Ive often asked people who think taxation is brill how many cheques theyve sent to Revenue over the years. I'll let you guess the answer...

What's interesting is not that they dont; it's that a good number believe it would be a complete waste of money to do so, ie they dont believe that government would achieve anything worthwhile spending these voluntary contributions.

Of course, in the next breath, they call for more taxes on the rich.

As a leftie I just paid over €56k in taxes in the last tax year. (excl VAT on non business related consumption)

If we want to defend Western values a la Trump, we need a functioning society, paid for by taxation.

I saw this yesterday. It seems that those that complain about paying too little tax don't choose to pay more when given the option.

It's always the same, others should pay more.

I couldn't agree more there should be an upper limit and everyone should pay something including water charges.

The GOP-controlled legislature in Kansas nearly reversed the conservative governor’s tax cuts on Tuesday, as a coalition of Democrats and newly-elected centrist Republicans came within a few votes of overriding Brownback’s veto of legislation to raise income-tax rates and eliminate an exemption for small businesses that blew an enormous hole in the state’s budget. Brownback’s tax cuts survive for now, but lawmakers and political observers view the surprising votes in the state House and Senate as a strong sign that the five-year-old policy will be substantially erased in a final budget deal this spring. Kansas legislators must close a $346 million deficit by June, and years of borrowing and quick fixes have left them with few remaining options aside from tax hikes or deep spending cuts to education that could be challenged in court. The tax bill would have raised revenues by more than $1 billion over two years.
So Tax cutters, tell us about your magic money tree then? Taxes were slashed in Kansas...why didn't the economy magically propel itself to the moon on the back of this? Why didn't the Magic Money Tree spring forth, and why now is Kansas racing to keep the lights on?

Economic literates mehole! Why are both the UK and US economy now tanking under right wing governments? Why should tax cuts for your rich mates pick up the overall economy when extensive research shows that the rich simply remove the extra cash from the economy and place it in non-productive storeage?

This is the dimwittery of the right showing that underneath it all, the right no more understands economics than a monkey flinging it's own poo understands the physics of the poos flight.

Make the 1% pay for everything.
That's the first intelligent idea you've ever posted here! :)

I support bin and water charges based on consumption with suitable allowances to ensure basic living standards for all.

The anti water/bin charges campaigns are absurd.. leftwingers arguing against a fair taxation system? Idiots

Do you have some evidence that the US and UK economies are now "tanking"?

Would love to see it.

Some taxes are too high e.g. VAT at 23%. Some are too low, e.g. Corporate tax a nominal 12.5%. Others kick in at too high a level, e.g. Inheritance tax. Inheritance is unearned and is unproductive, I don't see it is not just taxed as income, take 52% from net sales of property.
