Terrible bombings in Iraq

Surprised there is no thread on this already. At least 31 people have been killed and over 200 wounded in the latest wave of bombings across the country. Sunni Islamist militants linked to al-Qaeda have been blamed for the attacks (the same groups being cheered on in Syria). The country is in total anarchy, there is no rule of law and people live in constant fear of attack. Apart from bombings and shootings there is regular beatings and intimidation of ordinary people. Iraq has become hell on earth for most people there.

BBC News - Iraq deadly bombings hit Nasariyah, Kirkuk and Baghdad

Edit: Other reports say 55 dead

Because in the eyes of much of the media and indeed the masses who lap up this media, blood on the streets in Boston is more valuable than Iraqi blood.

Of course American media is going to be more interested in reporting the Boston bombings. It is logical. Much like Iraqi media is going to be more interested in reporting the bombings there.

Logical? I take a more pessimistic view, American foreign policy was partly responsible for the mass murder today in Iraqi, they should report it as it is linked. If there was a positive story from Iraq, the media would be all over it, almost justifying western foreign policy in the region.

Whatever about the war, the two brands of Islam hate each other a lot more than they hate the US or Israelis
And that's not going to change anytime soon

Obama was warned about cutting and running. He cut and run and look what has happened.

He is now about to cut and run from Afghanistan.

Bush and Blair were warned about going into Iraq without an exit plan and look what happened....

To quote an erstwhile ex International Rugby coach.... "You can't un-ring a bell"
The Mid East would be an immeasurably worse place with Saddam in power.

Boston isn't in the middle of a warzone. The OP might be on to something if bombings were a frequent occurrence in the US, but they're not. Same reason why shootings in Ireland get more attention here than shootings in the UK or US. Because they're far more rare here than in some other countries.

Potatoes/potatoes tomatoes/tomatoes.

We'll never know because the US/UK illegal war ultimately killed him, leaving the mess and issues that have ordinary Iraqis facing todays news on a regular basis.

Bush recently said he's happy with his Iraq legacy.... fair play to him. Why doesn't he pop over and see what they think of him.

In decades to come Bush and Blair will be remembered as nothing more than war criminals.

Pretty much.

It's amazing the amount of wars that are fought in the name of God....
Or race, nationalism, natural resources, territory, jealousy... we'll always find something to divide us, it seems to be the human condition.

Milwall supporters whaling on each other the other day is puzzling (Though not unwelcome).

Bush-or more pertinently-his puppet masters Cheney, Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld thoiught it would be as easy as that. Bush is not the brighest-he didn't even know about the difference between Shias and Sunnis and worse, nobody saw fit to tell him- so I'd cut him some slack but these gentlemen's ignorance, ineptitude and recklessness will be judged harshly by history.

Obama was warned about cutting and running. He cut and run and look what has happened.
So The American troops should stay to be assailed from all sides and to little effect.
