Indian attacks: More than 80 reported dead as gunmen run amok in Mumbai | World news | guardian.co.uk

In one of India's worst terror attacks, gunmen ran amok in the wealthiest part of Mumbai tonight, killing dozens of people, blowing up cars, petrol stations, hospitals and luxury hotels and taking a number of foreign nationals hostage.

...

The motive for the attacks was not immediately clear, but Mumbai has frequently been targeted in terror attacks, including a series of blasts in July 2006 that killed 187 people.

The city has been hit repeatedly by attacks since March 1993, when Muslim underworld figures tied to Pakistani militants allegedly carried out a series of bombings on Mumbai's stock exchange, trains, hotels and gas stations

The Jihadi's have been stepping up attacks in India, over the last few months. This will sadly become more frequent in India.

It will indeed. Partition was never going to be enough for these people. There will always be further demands until finally they return for the whole lot. India is unfinished business.

I wonder who was behind this partition?

I'm all ears.
Maybe there were ears too but it was largely breasts.

Tempting as it is(and it is very tempting) to blame it all on a post colonial crisis. Twin Towers is correct.

Read your history!!!

A commentator on the BBC declared that the Mumbai outrage "defies belief". No, it doesn't. Where has this guy been for the past decade or so ?

Imperialists always did take advantage of the inveterate social fractures they found and their presence could keep them at bay for a while. But only for a while.

Indeed. Par for the course. Indiscriminate attacks on resteraunts, hotels and train stations is standard modus operandi for the adherents of the reliogn of peace. On BBC world their security correspondent corrected someone who said Islamic terrorists. All I can say is WTF!

It still endures. Just yesterday, it was pointed out to me that India is getting stronger - it was held back for a long while by the the division of the country.

Christ, I have friends working over there at the moment.

Just watching BBC and CNN, it's carnage - and there are 40 hostages in the Taj Mahal hotel.

You never miss an opportunity, you ingrate. Meanwhile, the BBC has said:
If the reports are true, ......A claim of responsibility has been made by a previously unknown group calling itself the Deccan Mujahideen. Our correspondent says it could be a hoax or assumed name for another group.
