Here we go again folks........

The "Season" effectively starts for us Dubs this Sunday (January 1st) when the Dublin Footballers and Hurlers take to the field in the annual "Dubs Stars" games at Parnell Park.

The hurling clash of Dublin v the Dubs Stars hurlers get the action underway at 12.30 and it followed by the football equivalent at 2.0.

Admission is €10, for accompanied children admission is free.

The Football game will see the first introduction of the "Mark" in 2017.

Can Dublin win the O'Byrne Cup back or will Meath retain it?

Will Dublin retain the National League?

Will SAM stay in the capital?

After 22 years in the shadows the Kilkenny Camogie eventually got the better of Cork in 2016, can they hold of Cork and others in 2017/

Can anyone step up in the Hurling to take on Kilkenny and Tipperary?

Will the Tipperary Footballers fade back into the shadows?

Will Mayo bounce back in the West and take the title back from Galway?

Is Ulster Football on the way down or on the way back up?

Can the Cork Women Footballers make it 7-in-a-row?

Can we dismiss the chances of anyone but Kerry in Munster?

And what of the club scene, will Slaughtneill get to the Football and Hurling Final?

I'll be sticking up all of this weekends fixtures shortly..............

At first glance at the betting Mayo to win the West at 10/11 looks a gift. Would of had that a lot shorter personally. Backed Dublin last year to win Leinster at 1/10 but 1/20 is too skinny for me, i'd probably take 100/1 about Westmeath if forced but no interest to be perfectly honest. How Armagh are short as 10/1 to win Ulster and ahead of Derry and Fermanagh is beyond me. An abysmal side that have made zero progress over the last two years, in fact have gone backwards. The 16/1 about Fermanagh to win Division 2 looks huge, a team that really don't get the respect they deserve from the bookmakers. They should really be 6's along with Kildare and Meath. Will have a proper sconce through it all later in the week

I wonder if this will give us early signs of where Cork are presently.

Big chance to lay down a marker, tough game but Home advantage might see Galway Home.

I think we should improve on this year's qf. I think we will defend the Ulster title and win a qf.
I don't see Dublin getting to 3rd final in a row. Not that they're not the best team it's just a near impossible task.

Will Galway retain Connacht and have Mayo been damaged this year? All factors.
Judging by 2016 I think Tyrone and Kerry are best placed to improve.
A slight improvement can make a world of difference at qf stage.

I will wait on the national league before taking on any outside predictions.
Roscommon a big let down this year after so much hope and while cork could finish top of the league they're capable of everything and nothing equally.

It will still be far too early in the year to get any kind of real gauge as to where anyone really is.

But I think regardless that Cork are most likely in for another hard year at senior level , the players are just not available to them at senior level right now , a result of years of neglect at underage level.

It was shocking how poor Cork were last year in Thurles in the 1st round of the Munster championship , their own fans were very embarrassed afterwards speaking to a few of them , they were realistic to know they did not have a great team beforehand but were really shocked to see the gutless display they put on. They need badly to find some physicality. They are very soft.

But it is not all doom and gloom for them as their current underage set up is very strong and I think they are not far away from winning and competing for underage provincial and AI titles again. Their minor team last year was strong as well and gave Tipp a very tough game in the Munster semi final and Tipp eased to an AI after that match.

Good strong Cork teams can only be good for our games, looking forward to seeing them back near the top.

Will Dublin do a three in a row? I don't think so.

Will Tipp do a two in a row? Yes, the first since 1965.

Tipp fotballers need to get into D2 and kick on in Munster.
