Reports this morning in Irish Independent that FF has rejected FG's proposals for Dennis Naughten to stand in as caretaker Leas Ceann Comhairle in case the Presidential Commission cannot meet in the event of the Ceann Comhairle being incapacitated.

Hopefully there will be a National unity government. Comprising the 3 main parties. This would imho help the nation get over the next 2 years.

FG, FGlite, and Labour? :)
Presume he means SFFG . Given all 3 have the same health policy "bring in Slaintcare" should be doable despite protestations on here to the contrary.

Time to step up chaps.

Dear God ..and hilariously you talk about everyone else's intelligence

The decision in the election of a Taoiseach wasn't an "either or" situation ,something thats understood by adults of normal intelligence as democracy

You claimed that it was the will of the Dail ...Firstly , in a clear democratic election 82% of the electorate told Leo he was no longer fit to be Taoiseach , so hes not Taoiseach by the will of the people ( important detail , never mentioned by the media).
This was followed by 78% of TDs voted AGAINST him ...so your claim that other people are stupid when you cant even grasp these basic math is utterly priceless ...but of no suprise to anyone familiar with you.

So are you still claiming he's the Taoiseach by the will of the Dail ?
Who has a popular mandate from the people as a new Taoiseach?

I see that rent freezes are to be legislated for.

Does this mean that SF was right about their constitutionality, and FG/FF wrong?

Or does it mean that FG/FF are knowingly breaking the law?

I would say the government are betting on no one having the neck in these time to bring a constitutional challenge

It means that we're in a national emergency so things that you normally wouldn't/can't do are done to protect the people. It's a short term move.
Do you accept that were currently going through a national emergency?

The constitution is the constitution and it applies regardless of there being an emergency or not.

Of course many would describe our housing situation as an emergency.

But of course the point is that just 4-6 weeks ago FG and FF were saying that rent freezes were unconstitutional. If they truly believe that, then they taking a measure which they believe to be in breach of our constitution. We should all be very worried about that.

Of course, in reality they knew that they were talking out of their collective hats some weeks back, so we need not be concerned.

A 3 month freeze is different to a long term freeze and this is not "normal" times.
Would you prefer if they hadn't put in a temporary freeze?
