Incredible that a pal of Putin's who owns a chunk of EN+, that owns 48% of Rusal, will cause 450 job losses in limerick.

Or, maybe not. Humphreys and Coveney will make nice in the EU and with Ole Wilbur. The problem was one a-dem inadvertent inadvertencies:

“The sanctions have inadvertently put the company’s future in jeopardy, and we’re facing a potentially devastating impact on employment in the regional economy,” Ms Humphreys said in Washington.

Oleg Deripaska is a member of an organised crime group in Russia, he admitted in a UK court that he paid krysha, (protection) to them, he personally ordered the murder of a Russian business rival in 1995, he provides information to and receives information from the Russian secret services, he has close links to Paul Manafort who has been charged with conspiracy to defraud the US (election interference on behalf of a foreign power), he is your post-Soviet crook par excellence.

I actually don't think that it is in Ireland's interest to be in the Alumina/Aluminium business.

Aughinish consume vast amounts of electricity, which increases Ireland's carbon footprint.

Presumably at a reduced cost compared to what the ordinary consumers pay for electricity.

Let the various oligarchs involved bring their polluting plant to another location.

Ireland's business model of the future consists of quangoes. Relocate some quangoes to Aughinish instead.

it was a bit like when Kinsale gas was used to prop up the failing fertalizer company so in effect turning a valuable commodity into a less useful one.

Still in this case it is a private company so it must be a reasonably profitable company
