Slovakia 'asked to remove' cross and halo from euro coin: theparliament.com

The European commission has asked Slovakia, which has recently been dragooned into the Euro to redesign its coins to remove the cross as it has a problem with religious symbols.

What next? Are to have our shamrock removed from out sports shirts due to its religious association?

Another pathetic attempt all political correctness and interference into national interests.

The article points out that when a country is designing its coins it has to take into account the fact that they will be circulating throughout the entire eurozone.

It's not appropriate to have religious symbols on coins for that reason, if neutrality is the goal.

I think Norway should be removed from the map on the coins and notes, it looks like a big willie drooping over Europe.....

Personally I'd prefer if they'd remove the Euro from our lives.

Sounds like the EU Commission has given the Slovaks a perfect excuse to get out.

As if having to bailout out Irish quango snouts is not already enough of a reason.

What more fitting symbol is there for the legacy of Jean Claude Trichet than a nob hanging in the wrong place, with a long shadow ?

The EU Commission has just made these coins a collectors item.

Unlike the Euro, these coins will now gain value.

You want one rule for the Christians and another for the Muslims?

Consistency isn't your strongest suit. People like you make a mockery of the concept of equality for all.

You should be ashamed of yourself for staring this thread.

The so-called 'full veil' sums up the Muslim fundamentalist view of women as shameful and riddled with 'sin'.

Why would you criticise its banning if equality is so important?
