The French are plotting to use Brexit to destroy the British economy, according to a memo leaked to the Mail on Sunday.

Written by former Home Office Minister Jeremy Browne, the memo states that the French are "crystal clear about their underlying objectives: the weakening of Britain, the ongoing degradation of the City of London".

Browne is the City of London's Brexit Envoy and has been on a tour of EU capitals. In other capitals, he states that there is "not unreasonably" a keenness to take advantage of whatever benefits may accrue to them from Brexit. However, the meeting with the French was "the worst" and that they want to destroy the City of London, even if France doesn't benefit.

France doesn't have to do much to wreck the City of London: the Brits (ie the Tories and Corbyn) are doing it for themselves.

The Medicine oversight institution (sorry, cannot remember exact name) currently located in London is likely to be moved to Strasbourg to replace the regular, very expensive, visits by the EU which will now stay in Brussels all year long.

The Brits have never shown themselves to be such idiots. Maybe one good thing about Brexit will be for GB to stop being so bloody arrogant.

Just me maybe - but it seems to me that the UK cabinet has lately become as leaky as a colander. This leaked memo. Philip Hammonds supposed allegedly sexist leak. More spinning?

It's a solid approach by the French. We're doing it too at a lower level to appeal to business to get them to Dublin.

I'd use the term "Competitor" over "Adversary". Get in, get the business. Let London whine and other EU states talk about why it's nice to be nice afterwards.

The actual memo is designed to shock the intended readers into action to stop the pull factor of course. Not to slate the French. If the French don't do it someone else will.

They don't have to. The Brits are doing a very good job of it themselves.

Any impartial observer must conclude that the British don't need any external help in wrecking their country and it's economy. They're making a fine fist of it all on their own.

Some hysteria is emanating now from London.

Best ignored, like a toddler playing up.

No, hysteria is the right emotion. Keep at it, then the Tories may give in and realise they are wrong by following Farage and UKIP etc into the dark and forbidding place that will be Britain post-Brexit

The Daily Wail is partly responsible for this Brexit mess. Now it is changing its viewpoint?

There's a very simple thing to remember. A country not in the EU or an associated member of the EU is a direct competitor of the EU bloc.

Why the hell wouldn't the EU extract maximum advantage from a competitor? It what it is designed to do. This is 101 in international power relations and politics.

The UK is now a tadpole in a tank full of carnivorous fish. It will be treated by other bloc's accordingly. Simpletons will moan about "punishment", talk about "special realationships" and wax lyrically about past power. Reality doesn't deal in such bullshít at the international level.

It's ramping up xenophobia while ignoring the causes of the UK's problems. So sticking with it's usual viewpoint.
