Are you the public and the media too negative about politicians?

Tonight, Pat Kenny is joined by Pat Rabbitte, Labour TD, Minister for Communications to discuss negativity and politics.

Pat Rabbitte - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It will be … erm, how shall I say … interesting hearing the Minister lecturing the Irish people as to why he shouldn't be lambasted through social media when he lies to the Irish people.
During an edition of The Week in Politics broadcast in December 2012, presenter Seán O'Rourke asked Rabbitte if he had broken any campaign promises. Rabbitte said, "Isn't that what you tend to do during an election?"
In studio Pat discusses the "constant denigration of politics" with the help of:

Dan Boyle, Director Green Foundation https://twitter.com/sendboyle
Brenda Power, Sunday Times and Irish Daily Mail columnist https://twitter.com/thebrendapower
Harry Browne, DIT Lecturer https://twitter.com/harrybrowne
Larry P. Donnell, NUI Galway

Also can we see green shoots of economic recovery and will we feel the effects? Minister Rabbitte stays to debate with

Should be a good one. :D

We can play a drinking game with this.

Every time ''faceless'' is mentioned, take a sup of a drink. If P.ie gets a mention down it. If they name a poster by username, down someone else's pint.

While I agree that social media is full of cranks who think they have free reign to defame and act out their teenage fantasies, the amount of whinging politicians are going on with is ridiculous. Gods sake, no-one is going to pass a law which bans criticism of politicians, and we already have laws which address defamation and harassment. If they want to be able to speak freely to an adoring audience who hang on their every word, go back to teaching junior infants.

Plump Bunny - who recently commented that it is necessary to tell fibs to get elected, thinks that there is too much negativity in Irish politics.

What about his shifting statements concerning the issue of the Promisory note repayment ?

Or his various PR stunts since he got into office ?

Maybe if Plump Bunny gave the people some respect, they might not be so utterly p'd off with his antics and posturing !!!!

ruserious..........lets start with a bottle of jack daniels

Measure if

1. The rabbit laughs out loud
2. Dan Boyles make a complete tit of himself
3. Every time Constantine nods his head and smirks
4. The rabbit loses it
5. p.ie is mentioned

Might need two bottles.

Will be interesting to see how they people of Tallaght who voted Pat in at the last election take to this message. Maybe they shopuld just forget the 100's of posters his crowd put up in the area saying vote Labour to protect child benifit!!
My jaysus if Willie O'Dea had of said this crap during the last Dail Pat would have been the first to tear into him. He and Labour led daily attacks on the last government inside and outside the Dail and his hypocracy just 18 month on is amazing!

Labour did protect child benefit.

It could be €100 per child rather than €130

They should have the debate about negativity after Constantin pulverizes Bunny in a discussion in matters relating to the economic performance of the country !!!

People wonder why there is negativity in Irish politics, and you get somebody who knows economics like Constantin bombarding one rather rotund looking bunny, in an argument about economic policy, debt and a whole plethora of topics about which Bunny only knows soundbites.

Rabbitte is the worst Minister to have on for this debate, he has turned into this Governments Dick Roche. His arrogant put downs of anyone who dare questions him will only serve to back up the negativity around Politicians.

We still need to borrow €13 billion per annum to live.

Quotes from Pat Rabbitte, TD, and Minister.

1. "isn't that what you tend to do during an election" (when asked about how he mde promises to the electorate, that he subsequenty broke)

2. "Standards of political journalism have fallen" (after he becomes a minister, and gets to become the focus of critique himself )

3. “in the next few weeks” (concerning when there would be a dela on the Promssory Notes)

In an interview given to the Wall Street Journal (owned by Rupert Murdoch - surely Bunny would want nothing to do with them ?) the headline reads
[ INTERVIEW: Senior Irish Minister: Deal On EUR31B Promissory Notes 'In Weeks' ]

That was dated 9 February 2012. (almost a year ago). Still no deal.

4. “We didn't pay the promissory note this year and as far as I'm concerned" 18th of December 2012.

5. “We intend to bring forward Government cloud strategies and we're working with industry players and employers." 14 February 2012 (how exactly does he square that with the amount of times he states that other politicians had their "heads in the clouds" ???). Still no strategy, by the way.

I think he is getting a bit peaved by the picket locals have put outside his clinic in Tallaght village over the last few weeks highlighting the bare faced lies he told to get elected. Not sure why he is so upset, its not like he ever turns up!
