So why didn’t we hear from the Irish Left?

Because there were no Jews involved.

Last Friday in Lahore, Pakistan, 93 people were killed by Islamists.

Did this motivate anyone to start a thread?

So what's with the Irish leftist obsession about Israel?

No, you see the problem is that with Iran, Afghanastan and Pakistan it is hard to tell which side are the terrorists.

With the Israel it's fairly obvious.

Once again the supporters of Israel defend it by saying look, we are just the same as all the rest of the nutters around here, Hamas, Al Qaeda, etc etc.

Israel lays claim to be a modern western state, until it abandons that charade then it will provoke the ire of people in the West left and right.

Personally I feel that Islam and its adherents are a severe threat to Europe, but there can be no doubt that Israel is as much a threat to peace in the Middle East as any of the loons there.

The state of Israel has a duty to defend it's citizens. Whether you like the way it does that or not is irrelevant.

Err, the Irish left was very much against the war in Iraq which lifted the lid on this particular Pandora's box.

It was right wing Israeli supporting nutjobs who cheered it on.

Hans Blix is owed an apology.

Exactly but it still can't be irritated when the world starts to view them as part of the lunatic pie. I'm sure their counter parts in Hezebollah etc think exactly the same. Hamas gains its legitimacy thanks to the blocade, Hez. gain theirs from opposition to Israel in the Leb. while in Israel its leaders gain power acting tough against the first two.

You're Not on Your Own, Yanshuf

I'm of the Left in Ireland and I am copying for you below a post of mine on politics.ie four days ago...

It's a Multi-Faceted Question

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If this whole Middle East business was simply amenable to solution, it would have been resolved decades ago. There is a contradiction, I think, in a lot of the oul' cant you hear piped out by many of us who live comfortable lives in relatively comfortable western democracies. "The Palestinians are much put upon", I hear you cry...and you're right. HOWEVER...I REJOICE IN THE FACT THAT ISRAEL ALONE CARRIES WESTERN SENTIMENT AND MORES IN AN OTHERWISE THREATENING AND MEDIEVAL AREA. I don't want to live under the mullahs who would tee me up and lop off my hand for some arbitrary crime. I abhor the Islamic view of women and I recoil from the whole prevalent notion of jihadism. I am not a fan of the DUP, but I'm certainly a flag-waver for the putative 51st State...Israel. Long may it prosper and have the balls to take on the fundamentalist threat.

The left leaning, anti-American, islam defenders should read people like Christopher Hitchens and Nick Cohen who highlight the inconsistencies in the arguments of these people. They would only feel shame if they were honest with themselves

I don't want to live under the Israeli's whose sniper's shoot children in the head.

I don't want to live under the Israeli's who would run me over with a bulldozer for protesting against there actions.

I don't want to live under the Israeli's who commit acts of piracy and murder civilians.

I don't want to live under the Israeli's who flout international law.

I don't want to live under the Israeli's who carry out assassinations and kidnappings in European countrys with impunity.

Does it ever occur to Israelis that many of us in Europe would like to think better of their country, and that we expect them to to have higher standards than those in force in some nut-job theocracy?
So saying "islamist nut-jobs are just as bad as us" doesn't really forward your arguement. In fact rather the reverse, I'm afraid.

Pathetic, the Mossad trolls have been reduced to listing the deaths from gang warfare in failed states to justify their crimes. Failed states that they together with their US Neocon allies spend much of their time destabilising.

FAIL!!!!!!!!!

The left require an enemy to exist and to motivate simple populations who need a good guy and a bad guy. Unfortunately they have chosen Israel - even though the oil sheiks and their moslem subjects would seem to make more sense as enemies.
But to appear more radical to the ignorant, they target the Israel who are basically europeans living in an area the size of county cork in the middle east and surounded by deadly enemies.

Where do you want to live? Under Hamas? Some left regime like China or North Korea? Ireland, where teenagers in care are left to their own devises and are murdered?

The state of Israel has a duty to defend it's citizens. Whether you like the way it does that or not is irrelevant.
That cowardly excuse will never deter people from standing up for human rights or standing against apartheid.

Que non equivalent whataboutery.

Pathetic, the Mossad trolls have been reduced to listing the deaths from gang warfare in failed states to justify their crimes
Oh, a Mossad agent who lives in Jerusalem?

Again, the left really does use all it has - automatic for the prolatariat?

The left require an enemy to exist and to motivate simple populations who need a good guy and a bad guy. Unfortunately they have chosen Israel - even though the oil sheiks and their moslem subjects would seem to make more sense as enemies.
But to appear more radical to the ignorant, they target the Israel who are basically europeans living in an area the size of county cork in the middle east and surounded by deadly enemies.
I think you'll find the US's next biggest ally in the area are Saudi Arabia.

One of the biggest Islamofascist country's in the world.

Remind me again, how many of the 9/11 killers were Palestinian.

Oh, none. 19 out of 22 were Saudi though. Effectively Isreal's allies.

Strange how sh1t works out, yes?

As I said hypocrisy in its full display.

Aren't you supposed to be in bed, or working on a new DNA model for your teacher?

O really? Where and when did you stand up for human rights recently?
