So I'm sitting here this evening watching the Late Late show and Jason Sherlock and his mate Li Ching are there rabbiting on about how racism is affecting their lives within their national sport.

Ok, so I am a red head and always have been  pity the fool maybe says you BUT I was soooo angry sitting here this evening listening to these guys going on about how bad it is for the national sport that racism should be a part of the norm within banter. I have been slagged my entire young life about being a red head and have taken it on the chin BUT all of a sudden these 'men' come out and are welcomed onto our national talk show and given sympathy!! JOKE SHOP TV.

Does anyone out there agree with my annoyance or am I on a red headed rant?

Banter? Ah, yes; the word that excuses a multitude of sins.

Liverpool fans sing about Manchester Utd players' dying in a plane crash...that's banter. Utd fans celebrate the deaths of 96 fans, fans who were crushed to death...that's banter. Fans throughout Europe, glorifying the Holocaust and denigrating Jews, Blacks, and Asians...that's banter.

WTF would anyone consider racist goading a form of 'banter'?

The age of politically correct touchiness is coming to an end.

Touchiness? Yeah, I remember those fans making fun of Gary linekar's child, who had just recovered from cancer. Political correctness gone mad to expect them not to shout such things.

What kind of human is only inhibited to sing about Heysel because of political correctness? Why would someone ever think of celebrating such a thing anyway? Sad basterds

I partly agree - The Late Late is a farce.

Racism is only part of the problem. I'd even say it's not real Racism on the most part as in other players making rasict comments towards these guys is an angle to upset them rather than an act of superiority. It's not banter it's about getting an edge oer your opponent. Racism isn't the intent but more the tool.

Racism is International which is why it is focused on so much, as a red hed you're just an individual so no Late Late for you.

In a court of law this would be termed a "leading question" (at least on American courtroom dramas). The Socialists in RTE need "problems" in order to push for Big Government solutions.

I deplore racism of all sorts. The GAA has a huge problem on it's hand as racism is part and parcel of that game. Along with the violence in that sport it will be brushed under the carpet as usual. A young lad of no more than 13 was targeted because of his skin colour by players from a well known club in south county Dublin recently and when the parent complained he was told to get his son to "man up" by the team manager.

Unless the GAA pulls it's socks up it will keep losing fine young players to soccer (for nothing more than their skin colour) as the problem is not as bad in that sport.

The majority???? Listen, Mr. Crazy Horse, there's one thing to have banter between fans of rival clubs.....I'm Blue, you're Red....so what! As much as Irish Kopites will deny, it is a phenomenon this side of the water that, in my own humble anyway, ye are more interested in the on-goings at Old Trafford instead of supporting your own version of a Yankee franchise. Pretty harsh, and greatly incorrect to suggest the majority of United fans disrespected the 96 who died as a result of the Hillsborough Tragedy.

I have no doubt you would, rightly, be offended if I labelled all Liverpool fans as "complete scum".

Every clubs has an element who time and time again let their particular club down.....that includes your lot, my lot and practically every other club. You have absolutely no legitimate claim to attain any form of higher moral ground over your most treasured rivals from up the East Lancs Road, Sir....

Just wondering....I know you'll say, as an adult, that it was all only a bit of crack and it did you no harm, but would you have prefered, as a child, not to have had to listen to the 'banter' that you did, particularly when you hit puberty? Being honest like

The fact is that the supporters in question, of any club, are complete scum.
Be it GAA, Football or even hockey there are absolute dregs of humanity who 'support' such outfits. It allows their inner scum to shine through.
Thankfully they are a minority, but they'll always exist.

As always the Irish want to be seen to do the right thing and like to be seen to be welcoming of those different than ourselves, eg nigerians and polish. BUT we are racist and we do not really care about those who are different than us in a native sense. Redheads and travellers get AWFUL abuse from the Irish. The poor old redhead suffers juvenille mockery as a matter of course.

Calling someone with red hair a 'g i n g e r' is as bad as calling a black person a 'n i g g e r'.

It is unacceptable imho.

'G i n g e r' is just the letters of 'n i g g e r' rearranged, and neither words are meant as a compliment.

ergo neither are acceptable.

So the people who throw the word 'ginger' around are the same meatheads who would throw bananas at certain footballers.
